Just lay it in the driveway, soak it down... Throw some soap on it and scrub away with a brush... Rinse thouroughly and you should be good to go. Leave it dry in the sun. I did this on at least 5 cars with no ill effects.
This is the preferred method. You can wash it in the machine. No matter how you add the water and soap (hose, WM) it will distort the molding a bit, but it should be re-formable. It might be a little stiff, but there should be no real problems. My advice is to do what 9base3 said and hose the sucker off. Also, if you do it that way, you can really scrub the heavy stains. A washing machine probably won't do much 'cept get it wet and make it smell good.

would a hair dryer or leaf blower also be good in this situation? (I'm serious)

Unless you live in a cave, don't bother. just lay it out on your roof/driveway/hanging on the fence/porch railing/lawnchair/make your woman hold it.

A hair dryer is too small to do any good, and a leaf blower.. well, too weak. (Unless by leaf blower you mean a Rolls-Royce Turbofan engine)
