Just bought a plexiglass enclosed box, with a 4 port top, with 2 12" subs for 90 bucks at best buy. It is made by DUAL, and it kicks some serious bass. Have it hooked up to a 760w SC pioneer amp. All hooked to an older sony xplod head unit. I got all kinds of **** going on in the jeep. The wrangler is bumping now, and bumping hard!! It sounds really nicely, and you can hear it from 1000 feet away with volume set at about 12.

Rx7s have a great interior for subs, with the glass hatch shaped the way it is nearly anything will be loud, its launches the sounds right at your head. Instead of out the trunk like some cars.

put 2 15's in but if you think that is over kill just go for 2x12's

Most likely facing backward would be better. It preloads slightly in the airspace of your hatch and will typically give you a better low.

while i never had a sub in my 7, i have a single 10 in my 93 eclipse. its a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 being pushed by a 1000w Kenwood amp. hits quite well, and is still clean. while you can't hear it much at all outside of the car, the sound inside is what matters in my opinion.

what i have considered for my 7, is either two 8s or two 10s in the storage bins behind the seats in my 1g. granted, then you are looking at some custom work for your boxes, and whatnot, but it all depends on how creative you want to get, how much $ you want to spend, and how much work you want to put into it....

i've had a bit of all size's personaly 10's dont do it for me except the Theater research subs i had a while back, those hit harder then hell when i had them, i had those in about 5 diffrent cars, and they sounded the best in my datsun 260Z (semi same interior shape of an RX-7) so i think 10s would be best for you, i blew those though from over powering and overheating them a few times so dont push more then what's reccomended on em, lol

if you want some good hitting cheap 12's, look up earth quake, they retail for around $100 a piece brand new, my buddy had two in a custom box in his hatch and hit over 150db in a compitetion (he competes so his stuff was top notch, probably not what most guys who just want a little bump would do) i actualy have one sitting in my garage for a backup sub because i like how they sound and there pretty hard hitting for the money, there also severly under-rated and can take almost twice the power recommended

but i currently have 2 15 inch power acustik ****'s and love them, but im way underpowering them and need a class D mono block (which im getting soon) to really even get what there worth out of em

but you should just go see what you like and ask someone who does audio for a living take a look at your setup and see what they'd suggest for you and your needs

and 89 Rag, if im not mistaken the norm is 1 farad for every 1000W of power your drawing, and if not its not like a 1 farad is that expensive anymore anyway

you can have a set of cheap *** subs and still have them sound great given the proper power and enclosure..

what you should figure out first is where the enclosure will be .. and then look for a sub/subs that will work optimally in that space.. while takin into account the things pointed out by the people in this thread..

also by changing the positioning of the sub certain things will rattle more noticably, so make sure you address them accordingly..

I personally always liked the 1 ohm load on three jl w6s.. but that would be over kill.. but nice.. lol..
