I'm finally going to sew my seat up since the tear is getting ridiculous. It's the vinyl on the side and is torn right along where the side meets the fabric top. What should I use to sew it, just basic thread? I can't even sew buttons on clothes so this should be interesting.

thanks

I would say, this is a good excuse to get a nice racing seat, you can pick up a momo adjustable seat for about $450, or a Sparco torino for $599 or so, i think, mmmmmmm, Torino.

I had the seat in my GXL I just sold stitched by a pro, he put new padding, a new piece of vinyl on that part, picked it up and delivered it, all for $50, well worth it. Thing looked brand new, I even have a pic of it, I took pics of the cars engine, interior, but ended up selling it to the 1st guy who seen it anyhow.

$50! sounds like a plan... I think I will need new vinyl anyway since after 14 years, it seems really weak. I think it will tear again if I try and sew it. The padding and fabric on top seem fine though.

I told the guy " stitch it up, shove some foam in there, and throw whatever color vinyl that is close to match whats there", and he did a super job, if I said to make it mint, he probably would have done the same thing and charged me $100, lol. Here is a pic, I cant believe it matched so close, the seat had that typical ripped to shreds **** on the bolster with the foam hanging out.

Ha, I told you it could be done. It looks great, like it was never owned by a fool.

its not to hard to do yourself really, need some practice on a sewing machine though, take the pieces off the old seat you need to replace and use them as a stencil and make new ones and sew them on while the seat upholstery is turned inside out, then put it all back together. hope this helps a lil bit? :bigthumg:
