Rattle Rattle......
i have 2 15" Memphis Audio subs with a custome made (i.e. home made) box, facing backwards, now the problem is they sound awesome inside, but rattles like a snake outside (BTW the subs are powered by a 800watt Pyramid Crystal Competition amp), every time the speakers hit the hatch lifts a little, i took everything out of the spare tire well, and put a towel where the hatch seals in the rear which helped a little, but does anyone know a better way to seal the hatch without changing the car drastically?

If you've ever looked at a semi tractor trailor they use a pop down rubber lock I think jeeps use them too? You can get the whole unit from a machine shop or junk yard. If you care about look over function buy some sound deadner and lay it between your rubber seal on the hatc and the car deck. Anyhow just some ideas??
yeah like rxtek said try the sound deadenar if that doesn't work look at the latching system itself. Sometimes they have screws that you can loosen up and adjust the height of the locking mechanism. If it does then just slide it down a bit and it'll hold the hatch down tighter. I did that to the hood and the trunk of a couple of my buddies car, but I forget how the latches are configured on the rx-7's
Some foam tape might help, like the kind used for camper seals and for around windows and doors, they have it in various colors and thickness/widths. Put some around the hatch so there is no metal to metal contact.
heheheh got rid of the 15's this morning for 12's (Jensen Nitro Xpresses, anyone heard of em, they sound WAY better than the 15's, seriously) in a bandpass...., good thing about bandpass is it doesn't rattle everything as much either, i might still try the adjusting screws on the latch tho, it still needs it
thanx ppl
haha thats funny i'd swear my 15 sounded great. and im pretty sure its louder than any 12" you have. and i've got it in a trunk, the hardest to get loud. my 15 hits quicker and harder than any other set of 10's or 12's... maybe its cause i actually know what i'm doing. its a digital designs 9515 in a 3.8cuft box tuned to 35 with 42 sq in of port. oh and its got a mmats d300hc on it. i'm prolly doing over 145 at 40hz. which feels great. thats loud enough so that everything on my car vibrates.
maybe you should try sticking something in the gap before closing the hatch that might help.
