aluminum fc turbo hoods are roughly 35lbs

whereas the carbon fiber hoods available are around 25lbs

not cost effective in comparison with the weight savings versus cost...

10lb reduction for 600 bucks...this reduction can be achieved elsewhere..

and at most likely no cost..

I guess I had it backwords, lol

I was giving the weight of the "CF" FC hoods which are really FG hoods with

a layer of CF at the top.

im just not a CF fan. I feel it looks unfinished, Ill stick to my painted

hood on my FC. On a FD with some mods a CF hood is kind of the icing

on the cake, but even then I would probably opt for a painted version.

Those FC3s hoods are only CF on the top, then the rest of it is fiberglass anyhow, so basically its a "hey look at my hood" type of deal.

Plus its a chopper gun FG method, nothing compared to hand laid and rolled out. If those hoods were handlaid you could drop the weight a few pounds as you could roll out all the excess resin and fully regulate how thick the hood was. Chopper gun is a cheap way of doing FG. You get what you pay for.

Good points Rob, but:

Pre-preg CF = MUCH DINERO

Wet- Laid CF = Hard to make right unless you know exactly what you're doing.
