I am really pleased with the supplies I used.

I bought all the stuff online.

I used plastic prep/adhesion promoter/lanadu black vinyl coat and low luster vinyl clear coat.

I can supply the links if anyone is intersted.

that looks real nice dave

Fd3BOOST 05-21-2003 12:03 AM

The sprays dried very fast. It took several coats of black to cover the tan. This stuff went on thin. Thats ok, better than runs.

It seems to be adhering very well. I scratched at it with my fingernail and it didnt budge.

I have alot of other panels and trim to do but I am confident that they all will turn out just as well.

Now can it hold up to the heat and humidity without rubbing off? Thats the real test https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Fd3BOOST 05-21-2003 01:18 PM

Yea, it is rated for high temps. It doesnt say how high though. I assume that it will be fine for humid ass Maryland summer days.

These are all professional auto upholsters products.

I have already tried to scratch the **** out of some ofthe areas that wont show and the finish didnt budge.

When you see it in person you'll see how sturdy the finish is.

What did you do about the visers? and if you have a sunroof, the little thing that goes around it?

I payed Jspecracer7 to buy me the visors, floormats, light control from Yahoo auctions Japan.

I am not sure if Im coating the headliner like the doors or recovering them with crushed velvet, suede, or something like that. I considered doing the headliner and the A pillars in a nice material.

Similar to what GMonsen payed someone to do on his car.

I have most of the problems solved except for carpet.

Im not sure how Im gonna do that and stay in a reasonable budget with good results.

Im gonna have to buy some of that i got some plastic to paint.

Rob x-7 05-21-2003 04:59 PM

looks good, I usually buy stuff in quarts and spray it out a

spray gun, SEM makes good stuff though. You can also buy that

stuff locally, good auto parts stores carry it, and body shop supply places

definitly carry it.

9BASE3 05-21-2003 05:09 PM

Looks hot, Dave. My doorpanels look the same. Bit more shiny than the dash... Dunno if I like that or not, but I love the way the panels look alone!

What are you doing for the speaker grills and grill surrounds? How bout the vents? Same stuff?

Justin

rfreeman27 05-21-2003 08:03 PM

how much spray did you use?

Fd3BOOST 05-21-2003 10:28 PM

Hey Rob, I had good luck with the door but the harder plastics didnt seem to hold the sprays as well.

It went on fine except for a tiny bit of blushing. I got that out though. Anyway, It may be that I didnt use enough primer.

It may be because of the cold damp weather; I was indoors for the door panels and in the garge with the kickpanels.

In any case, I am hesitant to use the same stuff on the other hard plastics. Would it be better to let the coats dry over night in a heated room.

Or is there a better product you can turn me on to. I have an air compressor and guns.

Fd3BOOST 05-21-2003 10:42 PM

The door panel and accesories look and feel great. Im just not sure that the sprays will hold up well on the hard plastics.

I am thinking... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Joe Flo 05-21-2003 10:42 PM

Your interior looks a whole lot better then what mine started out as. I can see why you aren't in a hurry. But it looks nice as hell!!

You have the one part I am looking for!! Those door panels, (kick plates) whatever they are called. My car had plastic ones and they are tan and can't be painted. Where did you get those nice shiny one. I want the "bling" too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Those came with the car. My old fd didnt have them though.

I am pretty sure that malloy sells those for about $100.

You cant use the interior spray on the plastics. We tried. It failed https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png I did find a different kind of paint though. It was what I used on my center console. I might try that since it worked on the other stuff.

If you try to spray it on the plastics. Once it dries it will chip off. I have a bunch of chips already on the rear cabnets. That is the only thing that wasn't covered with leather. Also.....did you get seatbelts? You can't paint your originals either. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Yea I was thinking that it wasnt going to work on the hard pieces.

I gotta figure something out. Im commited now. I have half black interior. LOL

I am getting seat belts from Lane Change (Scott) next week.

I have a few other parts coming from Yahoo Japan auctions.

Jspecracer7 was so kind to help me out with the bidding and shipping.

9BASE3 05-21-2003 11:10 PM

You know, I used Plasti-Kote Vinyl color on JUST the kickpanels and doorpanels. **** KICKS ASS on the doorpanels. The kickpanels are VERY durable. They will chip, but only with effort. I can kick at them and scratch and they hold. HOWEVER, the edges will chip more easily. I scrubbed them with a scotchpad and alcohol... then painted a few THIN coats... And a few more thin coats. Honestly? I don't think they'll get THAT beat up. They are easy to remove and redo if so. It's the doorsills, bins and rear sides I worry about.... Not to mention the speaker grill surrounds and vents... Oh well... I'm committed as is Dave. LOL

Fd3BOOST 05-21-2003 11:20 PM

I have the same concerns. Im still looking for the stock black pieces.

I would rather go that route with the plastics
