I'm getting a head unit for my beater car,'98 civic EX coupe, for my b-day. After checking out Crutchfield I think Ive narrowed it down to the:

Pioneer DEH-P7400...$280

Kenwood MPV-??6022....$280

Kenwood excelon ???757 I think.....$280

They all have pretty much the same features and are all about the same prices. All have 3 sets of outputs. What do you guys think?

Now, I already have 4 new Sony Xplod speakers for the car. 6.5" fronts and 6x9 rears. Opinions on those?

I have a 12" Kicker XPL that I'm gonna hook up also. Opinions?

What amp should I get? I'm only going to amp the sub. I'm thinking somewhere around 300-400w RMS. Cost is very important since this is part of my present. What do you guys think?

Generally I listen to rap/hip hop, but mostly rock and alternative, If that helps any.

Thanks

300-400w will be fine to push 1-12" sub, just bridge the amp, it should hit good and hard.

You really can't go wrong w/ Pioneer, IMO the head unit is only a means of controls, speakers are meant to be run off amps, not deck power.

When choosing a head unit I look for ease of control.

A 300 W amp running the sub with the deck running the speakers will sound pretty out of balance, don't you think? Are you one of those people we can hear coming 2 blocks away?

P.S.

PPI makes killer amps.

I was just throwing around the 300w number. I just want something that sounds good but will hit hard.

For now I'm gonna go with the Pioneer p740mp Premier head unit. I'll figure out the amp situation later, I guess.
