Despite all the sharp opinions on this subject I decided to add a bose sub to my aftermarket system (BA6.5 door speakers, alpine head, JL 4x75rms amp). I cut the bose amp off and connected the two drivers to the JL amplifier in a push-pull fashion (basically reversing +/- on one). I've been using it for a couple weeks and am very happy with the sound. It's clean, loud and well balanced with the front setup.

The shortcomings are minor and or subjective. I would like to bring the frequency response up a little bit more to match the BA fronts, which are known to be extremely bright. I believe this can be done using the crossovers on the amp. I'm also concerned about how long the bose drivers will last. Given the difficult I have had finding high quality 6 3/4 in subs I am going to do what I can to make them last. I must add that I have driven them pretty hard without a problem. Finally, the sub really cuts into the trunk space, but it can always be yanked out when extra space is needed. Alternately I've found that passanger seat girlfriends are capable of holding far more than they will freely admit.

In the end I think it is a very good choice for those that can't justify the cost and hassel of going with a custom box, which seems like a crap shoot given the variation in opinions regarding size/placement/drivers.

BTW if anyone in MA has a bose trunk cover to sell drop me a line.

yes, but I'm going to hold onto it because it was such a PITA for me to get when I originally replaced my bose sub w an aftermarket setup.

BTW I'm looking for a bose trunk cover in the boston area. I gave mine to a friend when I originally swapped the bose out.
