Damn.. well, is there any way to over kill when choosing an amp for it?
Over kill is relative. Are you talking about power, price or quality? A $200 amp that says it's rated for 2000 watts is a piece of crap. There is nothing wrong with hooking an amp rated 2 x 250 watts to speakers rated for 50 watts. I drove my car for a year with a 20 amp fuse in place of the 30 before I blew it. And I always had it loud. The point is you will rarely use the power from your amp, because it only needs high power during extremely powerful bass notes. If you want to go overkill, check the link to Soundtream above and check out the Tarantula, Da Vinci and Human Reign. They are madness, and crazy expensive.

If you go overkill with power, and I mean REAL power, from a quality brand, you aren't likely to damage your speakers. Amps like McIntosh have soft clipping at high power that helps protect speakers and prevent a distorted signal from being sent. Distortion from cheap amps is what kills speakers, not clean power from good amps. What kind of component speakers do you have?

I haven't bought a component system yet, but I'm looking at something like Alpine Type R or maybe Infinity Referance or Kappa..

Focal builds JMLab home speakers. $65,000 USD a pair for the Grand Utopia. DynAudio are great, but they can't compete for spendy.
