You guys know how the gauges in a Porsche (I'm sure there are others), when you turn the car, sweep from left to right, and then fall back?

Is this something you can do with the wiring, how does this work? This would be a bad-ass little aesthetic mod...

Mazdabation 06-09-2004 07:17 PM

These gauges are electronic gauges that have a servo in them to do that.....They do this because its a test at each start up to make sure they are working properly. My bike has the same thing. As for doing it yourself, i have no freaken clue LOL

I remember reading something on Defi's website about that "test" thing, but they're gauges are obscenely priced. There's gotta be some electrical whiz out there who would have a clue...

Maybe you could wire in a capacitor that will discharge when you turn on the key. Hmm, let me think on this for a while.

Please do!

This may seem like a ricer mod to some, but nothing would make me want to rev/drive my car faster than seeing my gauges do that.

Maybe I'm just weird.

CGeek2k 06-09-2004 08:09 PM

The spedometer is mechanical, at least on fc's, so I cant do that one, but with the other guages it shouldnt be to hard.

Leetheslacker 06-09-2004 09:26 PM

I know how to make the tach sweep.

push the gas pedal!

You also get a awesome rotary exhaust sound too!

:o

Like I said, it's just an aesthetic mod I think would add a little personal touch, that's all...

they do that on the newer cars cause the guages are all driven by the ecu. on the rx7's the guages are actually hooked up to what they are measureing

Dysfnctnl85 06-10-2004 12:35 PM

So this wouldn't work with a Haltech? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

fd guages are not like fc's.. i know for a fact that the fd spedo is not mechanical. and i do not believe any others are mechanical. the reason why the sti guages do that trick like the defi ones is because defi makes the sti guages.

Every Dodge car or truck comes with the radio, power windows and locks, alarm and gauge fuse removed from the facotry (one fuse controls all of those). So when you fire up the car, it throws a FUSE code and sweeps ALL needels to their max and back.

It looks pretty cool on the SRT-4, but after a while, it started to piss me off. I'd pop the hood and plug the fuse in as soon as the fuckers would come of the delivery truck.

defi link system guages here i come

CGeek2k 06-10-2004 05:48 PM

Well, I cant do it on the FC guages. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png The dampening for the guages is actually built into the guage itself, so even if I apply 24 volts directly to the guage, it still takes a while to react. The FD guages might be different, but I dont have an FD cluster to play around with.

What about FB gauges? Hehe...

You have to pay out the ass for a Defi-Link system. No way am I paying that much for some gauges!

papasmurf 06-16-2004 04:15 PM

well well.... i may be selling my cluster soon from my car, so if anyone is looking for one let me know.. it should be for sale in about a month or less.

T72FC 06-20-2004 04:26 AM

I am going all DEFI gauges in my FC right now, I have the Boost and EGT, but I plan to replace everything with DEFI gauges in the next few months.

Once you buy the little Link box, which, all guages plug into, (it also records 3 minutes of your gauges for future playback) it runs a little over $100, the guages prices are not that bad. They run about about the same as HKS, GReddy, or Apexi gauges and the quality is night and day difference over Autometer guages.

papasmurf 06-30-2004 01:30 PM

autometer cobalts cost more than defi depending where u get them... fukin 200 for a boost guage?
