it would be nice if there was a way you could make it more round/curvy.. but that would require all the molding/fabrication crap that goes along with it.
you could just put a stock console back in, and paint it.. umm, but that would be ricer ..

there's also the classic look of handmade pottery. or wicker.
i probably hate the idea of laying stuff up as much as anyone, but if i get real about doing interior stuff it's going to be CF.
for now it's JB weld and the powdered remains of the original interior.

I honestly think wood would work. It's easy to work with, easy to correct mistakes, cheap, strong, plentiful, and you can paint it any color, or stain it for that "I stole this out of a luxury car" look.

I would get a stock surround and customize it from there
there isnt that much room for something too thick
like wood, in my opinion anyhow.
custom requires taking into consideration the way your going to mount
it to the dash, I know I wouldnt want some screws going right thru the
front of it, and if gauges, stereo and other electronics
are going to be in there you
would definitly want something strong enough so it doesnt fall out.
I guess you could mold in a place to put the stock clips as well.
or you could go for the beefy look and put some stainless
hex fastners or something to hold the custom piece in place.
keep in mind if you do wood you could coat it with epoxy, sand,
prime and paint it and it will look just like fiberglass.

yeah its gonna hold a few guages (3?) the warning light cluster (already there) a radio, some kustom klimate kontrols.
it doesnt have to be pretty, the cars not gonna be shiny on the outside anyways
