I looked at the new carpet I bought... it was for the Spirit R... so it doesn't fit... i had to put everything back... bah

It's really nice though... RED carpet...
Ahh man that sucks!!

The carpet was backwards right?

I feel for you.
yeah... well... Mazda has to pick up the carpet and try to locate a US spec red carpet... i dunno.. well see
So you bought the carpet from Mazda?
well.. I called Mazda to order the red carpet that comes stock in some silver touring FDs... they said they had one in stock, but then they said later when I was ready that it wasn't... I then got a call back saying that Mazda Japan would make one for my FD... pretty cool... but then, they ended up sending me one for the Japan Spec FD... lol...

I should sell it for millions on ebay... it's JDM.. hahaha

I also thought of trying to fit it anyway.. but there is a bulge on the passenger side, plust the hole for the hatch release and a couple other misc things under the dash where the carpet ends... I just don't feel like hacking it up...

Did you know that your dash is only held in by nine 10mm bolts?
just removed mine..

it wasnt the nine that was a pita...

all the harness attachments and connections were the killers

I feel alot of respect for anyone that does that job. I have just finished re-wiring my entire car, I had to remove my fenders, front bumper to replace for a new one, dash and all interior panels came off too. It took me 2 weeks of labor after coming home from work and alot of bruises and scratches.

I dont think I'll ever do it again.

So I say.

So, back to the top again. My black carpet is arriving tomorrow. Dave, is there a good pic of where the 9 10mm bolts that hold the dash on are? Also, any tips or things to watch out for when taking the dash off? Another question; is there anything that I should replace while I have the dash off? Hoses to the heater core or something?

Thanks for the help guys. I want to try to make this as painless as possible.

replace the entire heater core assy.

Maybe put some sticky felt around where the dash goes to stop any squeaks you might have.
