I'm looking for like a basic writeup somewhere on how to create your own carbon fiber pieces, or just cover things with real carbon fiber.



I was hoping there might be like a "starter's" tutorial online somewhere with a list of what you need and how to go about doing it, anyone got any kind of sites with information like that i hope?

what kind of pieces you thinking about making?



You cant really lay carbon fiber on top of things and have it look like great, it is the same principal as laying fiberglass on top of things, it will be very rough. You have to make molds, have those molds highly polished before you layed any CF up in it so it will pop out of the mold shiny-a step some people think has no point, meanwhile they wonder why thier CF pieces look like **** when it comes out of the mold and have to be sanded and clear coated.

Also your CF must be lined up perfectly in the mold because thats how you will see it when its done, if its crooked and what not your stuck with that.

 

i'm mainly looking at doing all the interior plastic pieces in the FD, and i'm trying to figure out if it'd be cheaper to:

A) make it myself

B) send my trim pieces to some guy who will put carbon fiber on them and polish them etc and charge me i think $495 and then send it back to me.

if its for the interior pieces maybe you should try some of that CF tape, being as the pieces will weight much more then stock covered in CF I assume your going for looks. why not paint the pieces, it makes a bold statement and doesnt have that rice feel to it. I honestly cant see how pieces with CF OVER them will even fit right on the car afterwords by the time he lays them up and puts enough clear epoxy resin on it to polish.

 

I'v been looking for a way to fix the dash too. all that plastic just doesent look right. So far all that i have found is painting them is prob goin to be the best thing to do. Good Luck

if/when i get the car I'm prolly gonna go the painted route as CF is too expensive and in reality is just wasted money unless i feel like making show car, which i'm not . THe only reason i even intend to change from stock is cause i'm looking at 93's and most if not all have peeling interior so i figued i might as well go into the project with telling myself the interior will need work.



just gotta find a color that goes good with the exterior. If i get a BB one then silver, or a gunmetal type color will be going inside. Haven't thought about other colors yet lol.
