My step dad is from germany and he has all sorts of stories from that highway. He said how he would go crusing when he was bored on his honda shadow looking for porsches to race. The crazy **** would go upwards of 130 mph; on a motocycle thats fast enough to where the wind resistance can fling you off the bike. Scary fast...

Most of the autobahn is speed limited, only in areas of less than 50,000 are you in a "speeding safe for road conditions" area. Ussually the lower the number for the autobahn you are on, the better the chance you have of being able to open up the car. I used to frequent autobahns 3, 5, 643, and 10 Driving down to the BMW factory was one of the funnest trips for me, I had a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, 5 speed, 2.8 liter motor. I had no idea how fast I was going. The Speedo buried @ 85 mph and we were just flying. I was pacing a Mercedes 500sl, again I had no idea what we were doing until my buddy told me...230 kilometers / hr or for the non metric folks, were were doing 142 mph. Not bad in a little S-10 with stock tires. Got out at the factory, my sidewalls had been taking a lot of abuse, the marks were 1/2 way up the sidewalls. I kept the truck under 85 mph on the way home, one because I was scared to death that the tires might blow out, the other because my buddy had just picked up his brand new BMW 318i and was doing break in.

VW Golfs start to feel squirrely at 185 km/h.

A Mercedes C-class can create enough vacuum to nearly pull a VW Golf from one lane to another.

Ford Ka's are surprisingly fast.

Yes. Have been on it.

We always took our Volvo out on it. We were always going 140mph. Which I don't really recall looking out the window because I was always playing game boy in the back seat.

I do remember us on there one time going 140, and my dad happened to look in the drivers mirror, and saw a little red dot coming up pretty fast, and he turned into the right lane, and next thing you know the whole body of the volvo is just rocked. A ******* Porsche comes screaming by going about 180. ******* insane speeds.

I want to move back there. Or visit again and rent a porsche or ferrari for a day and have some autobahn fun. Will they let you rent a porsche or ferrari anyways?
