I just went with my buddy to MI to buy a 88 TurboII.

compression is very important, make sure the car is cold when you start it also.

watch for smoke, pay attention to the gauges, watch oil pressure, temp, and boost closely. Look carefully under the hood to see if it's been molested at all, if so take note of what. .. will it pass emissions, does it have to pass? etc.

drive it hard, watch the boost, it would be nice to get it into 4th and 5th if it's turbo and get way into boost, see if theres any

boost creep, fuel cut etc. if the car runs very strong it likely has decent compression and is at least usable.

The car we bought went for $1600. It blew a bit of smoke at cold start, but ran quite strong, and made it home from detroit to chicago with zero problems, with me at the wheel... so we already got our moneys worth damn thing was hitting fuel cut in 4th and 5th though, either waste gate not functioning or he's got some exhaust work done, we havent gotten into it yet.

good luck on your buy.

I'm just lucky that I have PENGARU and A-Spec Tuning near me when I go for the hunt in January. I've driven six FD's in 2 months and they've all been FA BO LO US. Hope the luck continues untill then, but I'm not concerned about my purchase since I know most of the stuff I'm supposed to and I've been wanting an FD since 5th grade. The FD and how I came to love it is a wonderfull story, I must tell to you good gentleman, but when the time comes. :bigok:
