My XP copy isnt how you say "legal", is it safe to install SP1? I'm rlly tired of the speakers popping (its an xp thing) and sp1 fixes it.

as long as you dont download it/install it through the windows update. just find a copy of it, they are floating around all over the place. The only reason not to go windows update with a "legal" is that your OS will most likely be rendered useless at some point soon after the fact.

It sucks.

I have the "cd" where SP1 and a bunch of other updates are already done.

Cool

Micro$haft archives all the updates as individual files somewhere on its site, so I would go wander through that wasteland, there should be links to the files for EVERY update they have ever released....

No. Microsoft builds in a list of blacklisted keys if your using one of the popular corporate ones, and wont update a cracked version at all. Doesnt matter where ya get it from. You need to change the key on your computer.

PM me for whoever needs help with it.

Win2k pro > XP
If you like installing stuff to be a big pain in the ***...software and hardware, then Win2K is better.

If you slipstream SP1 into the XP Pro install files, you are set.

Instructions were in 2600 magazine and I'm sure you can find them online. It's really simple.

Microsoft just announced last week they didn't care if you updated your pirated copy of xp, they said they would rather have all versions of xp safe then leaving the pirates exploited.
