Okay, no offense to anyone who posted in this thread, but you're all very wrong about what's going on. This is a known Windows/IE bug.

Here's how to fix it.

Go to your "Downloaded Program Files" directory. It should be %SYSTEMROOT%\Downloaded Program Files, where %SYSTEMROOT% is the base Windows directory -- i.e. if you installed Windows on your C:\ drive, go to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. If the folder isn't set to the "Details" view mode, change that (you probably don't have to worry about this). Click the little button marked "Status" near the top of the window. In the "Status" column, look for any files that don't say "Installed". Right-click each of them, and choose "Remove". Then, reboot your computer, and the problem should be solved almost as if by magic.

See if that works.

happens to me every once in a while... wants to save as Untitled.bmp right?

you can still give it a name and change the extension back to jpg....

I used to know what caused it... but can't remember at the moment...

you can still save the picture... you just have to change the bmp extension to jpg after saving it... it doesn't convert the format, just the extension

I'd bet it's some photo prog you have loaded doing something with your file associations. Check any digital photo editor progs you have and see what file types they take control of... just a thought.

I thought of that but the only program I am using is Photoshop 7 and this problem has never occured before.

It started after I crashed and reinstalled xp.
