i have SP2 and that didnt do anything to it, and like phins said its not for lan, i use msn all the time, but those pop ups were pissin me off

which messenger are u guys talking about? the one that is built into windows through the cmd System32>CMD.exe>net send BLAH,
the way i understood it was that they had to be allowed acces to your network which is VERY easy to do if you have some open ports that arent being used.
It allows network administrators to send messages to users or machines. These are one way messages, that appear in the form of a pop up message similar to the one below. You cannot reply to them directly - you would have to send a new message.
Example usage would be a network wide announcement (Server going down), or a message sent from one individual to another.
isnt that what you are talking about? im willing to listen if you explain to me how it is used without accesing someones computer or network.

that's exactly what im talking about, and yes i know you can send message's thru them thru a network cause me and my buddy used to, but its not just lan based, the built in windows messenger can connect to the net as well, and be used just as the normal msn messenger program can that you download.. srce's advice on how to stop the pop ups have worked and i havet had a single one all day

true i suppose.. i'll probably have to look into a firewall program at somepoint, im downgradeing from cable to dsl sadly
