The thing with me is I have no fear. And I don't fear getting fired or laid off. I told a senior engineer at my company that he was ignorant and lazy in front of the director (in more words) when he refused to update his design to make it work.

Let me tell you the 1st thing you need to do when u start your career...
Tip #1 - anything that is important make damned sure you converse via emails. Emails are backed up everyda by the information technology department due to the information they hold. When your 1/2 *** idiot boss gives you a directive or instructions to accomplish the task and doesn't clearly explain it or the idea is dumb you most likely will have to do it anyways or guess what he wants.
Usually then you attend project meetings where the directors show up and then they ask you... why has the schedule slipped? Where is my budget? Why doesn't it work? "that's the dumbest thing in the world..." why would you do that. Usually I bring with me 2 or 3 copies of emails from my immediate boss or senior engineer who instructed me to do what they wanted. You kindly hand the immediate boss and/or the senior engineer a copy of the email as well as the director or whoever is questioning your incompetance. Incompetance that was brought on to by your idiot boss/senior engineer.
However I must remind you that there is rule #1 which may affect Tip #1.
