Banzi you say that severely high levels will do this to you. How high is severely high? Could brakes on your car cause these problems? If so when? During driving or during brake change or fixing?
Brake changing is already toxic.. Asbestos in the pads will give you cancer in a heartbeat. That's why one needs to take the proper precautions, wear a dust mask, and use brake cleaner spray before working on the brake system. I would assume, then, that Cadmium dust particulates would accumulate just as asbestos dust from the pads. Hopefully brake cleaner will provide a vehicle for the harmful particles to escape without becoming airborne and being inhaled..

Sinful7 most of the stuff we buy for our cars are piosonus(sp) and don't come with a warning.
Name one.. (besides gasoline) that I'm likely to inhale or swallow.

I would assume that any military grade gas mask would do the job - ever actually seen an asbestos removal team?? They're in full Biosuits.

Not just inhalants and oral injestants. For instance hydraulic fluid(ie clutch fluid and trany fluid) and oil. Both of these are toxic and don't come with warning labels.

Actually I believe most brake pads are now made without asbestos. That's not to say whatever carbon/metal/kevlar compound they use isn't be harmful, it very well may be. Probably not as bad as asbestos though.

I used to be the TEAM LEADER of the Asbestos Ripout Team on the Submarine. I have also done Steam Generator Entries(Radioactive Contamination), Lithium Bromide Maintenance. Just take the proper precautions. A proper fitting respirator is a must!!!
