I realize i may get flamed for this, and be on the black list of nopistons.com

BUT... WHY THE **** IS THERE A DRIFT FORUM HERE?

Drifting is not racing. Drifting around a corner is slower then taking the correct apex/line and having grip.

This is not world rally racing where you drift the car into the corner because you are not aware of the true properties of the corner. It allows you to slow your speed down quickly enough so you don't go off the cliff when the turn tightens and u think oh ****.

Grip = speed.

Grip is defined by frictional force, where the coeffecient for kinetic friction is less then the coefficient for static friction.

That is why you stop faster when you don't lock your wheels when you brake.

ok i'm done venting.

btw i think drifting is bad business for autox. In most cases autox uses the same parking lot. Business people usually do not understand motorsports. THey can not distinguish between drifiting event and autox event.

They just think... those fuckers (drift event) messed up my lot. Autox organizer calls, hey can we rent your lot again this year? Business guy goes (isn't autox with cars going fast?), **** that no more lot for you this year. GO **** yourself!

drifting is about car control, if you can't understand that you need to broaden your horizons a bit.

While it may be about car control i still have a problem with how you win at drifting. It's not how fast you go or finish, but it's about how you look and you get judged. It's like ice skating with cars...

And from a road racing standpoint while it may be fun as something different i fail to see how you can compete as a drifter. Drifting may be about car control but autox and road racing are about so much more.

It is a sort of time attack...if you can finish the quickest while lookin good, +++pts

i don't know too many people that drift to "win". most of the drifters i know do it to get better, i haven't seen anyone that'd cut it on the D1 circuit outside of the guys at nopi. there are actual ways to determine winners in a drift competition, it was either car and driver or road and track that did a drift off or something like that. they installed two gps sensors at opposite ends of the car and datalogged both. by comparing both signals they came up with drift angles and about how long the drivers vould hold them for. i think that would be the only truly subjective way to "measure" a drift competition. drifting is still young in this country, it'll take atleast a few years for high quality drifters and a sanctioning body to emerge.
