i was just talking to some new rx-7 owner and he was telling me how he shifts at 9k rpm...

Kid has an 87 t2 stock, i was horrified.

so i started thinking. Just about everyone i've takled to about rotaries has had a conversation taht went soemthing like this.

"oh cool, i used to have an rx7 too. did you know those things dont have a redline? i took mine up to 9-11k all the time. those things were a blast."

which makes me wonder if they really ever had one. besides theres not even power that high!

FOOLS!! Ignorant fools. Almost all the people I'v talked to mention something about the engine needing rebuilt every 60k miles. Yeah, any engine will need rebuilt in 60k miles if you don't know WTF your driving and don't do regular maintanence.

At least be thankful that these guys at least (hopefully) know that these are rotary vehicles ... When I first bought my 7 the first thing this guy told me was "Whoa man, no way your Mazda went 16 years without a rebuild ... You've gotta change your pistons dude, Rx-7 pistons are horrible ... " https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Then he went on to tell me I needed to get some "Euro Lights" ...

While most piston engines sound like they're coming apart as they near redline, the rotary is very smooth at high revs. An ignorant driver might think it's cool to wind it past redline. These people are probably just brick dumb, or didn't have to pay for their car thanks to Daddy.

mazdaspeed7 06-24-2004 10:02 AM

Damnit, you mean I spent all that money to rev to 9500 rpm, and I didnt even have to?!?!

treceb 06-24-2004 10:37 AM

i did that in my FB quite a few times. needle woul be pointing about the 6 o'clock mark.

and rotaries do have pistons...sorta.

Shane.Trammell 06-24-2004 10:53 AM

you mean in the calipers right??

rowtareh 06-24-2004 10:58 AM

LOL. What a dork. When I first saw an RX-7 I did not know a single thing about them, but I was not ignorant and just put out random words about what I thought about it. I had somebody tell me the basics of the rotary, and went from there. I thank him, because he has gotten me addicted to them.

If I were taking the car past 7k rpms I would be annoyed by the rev limiter buzzer. Is there a way to disable that thing?

j9fd3s 06-24-2004 11:06 AM

yeah most people beat the living crap out of em and then wonder why it broke. we used to work on a gsl-se with 255k on it, EVERYTHING except the pd was original, even the rear brakes and clutch.

all they did was take care of it and not beat on it

UniqueTII 06-24-2004 11:09 AM

I used to shift my old TII at 7250 or so, but that's not too bad, I guess. My mom shifted it out of first at 45 mph, but she wasn't on the boost so all was well. I haven't really taken the new one over 7000 yet because I like the fact that it runs. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
