Up here they get the last Prelude's for PAX advantage. We don't have 3rd gear autocross courses and they get classed with Rustangs. The Mini Cooper S is looking like a good choice too.

PAX is the method used so that slower cars can compete head to head with faster cars for the overall win at an event.
It's unfair to expect a Miata to compete head to head with an FD, so each cars times are multiplied by a factor chosen from in depth experience to get a new value to go in the overall standings. ie: Lotus Super 7 w/ slicks 42.3 seconds (Class A mod, PAX 1.000) FD time 49.5 seconds. (Class ASC, PAX 0.850) Miata time 52.2 seconds (Class A/1, PAX 0.805) Overall 'times' Lotus - 42.3 seconds FD - 42.075 seconds Miata - 42.263 seconds The FD wins, followed by the Miata then the Lotus, even though the Lotus went through the course more than 7 seconds faster than the FD. Some cars are very strong in their class. Preludes VS Mustangs are a good example. On short tight courses, the Prelude has a natural advantage. On a longer course with more straightaways a well driven Mustang will have a better chance. Check out our local results page to see how it's done. WOSCA Results |
PAX = is an indexing system that adjusts cars times so you can compare them from class to class. Like a Viper would pax in the 0.94 range and an Sentra would pax in the .72 range. BTW - these are guessed times I do not have a pax list in front of me.
When you multiply the pax to the time you get an adjusted time thats supposed to even things out. I personally feel it is harder to get around a course 5 seconds faster in ANY car. Pax or no pax things are happening very fast in a faster car and it requires more skill to go fast. Example my brother has a GXL with an identicle suspension setup as me in my 320RWHP TII. His 120RWHP GXL is FUN to Autocross with because it is not a beast. MY TII is a handfull and requires a lot more driver input to keep it going where you want it. I love racing my brothers car because you can conentrate on the course and not the car. You can hit the gas at the apex of a curve and not have to coutersteer to keep it pointed where you want. Some guys like the Sentra purely for its PAX index being so good. |
Or I could just say "Yeah what TYSON said".

Didn't Charlie Priddle invent the PAX formula?

Most sentra's suck but the older SR20DE driven SE-R's arent too bad. It's still a Sentra but its the Type-R equivalent mostly.

Excessively! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Looks like I did it to change the word 'beat' into 'be' and leave it that way. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png
An actual fast Sentra! World Challenge Project Car is almost finished now and will probably whoop my ass next year on a tight track, even though I plan to have 300 hp advantage! |
