why nitrous is better than boost

i'm watching the road warrior (mad max II) and when he tries to escape from the refinery in his V8 with a supercharger the crazy-***-cheeks man uses nitrous, catches up with him and knocks his car off the road. 
BTW does any one know what kind of car max is driving. it looks like a cross between a camaro and a chevelle
