I've had 98 on one of my systems and it's never given me any trouble what so ever. My mom's computer flat would not run with 95 and the 98 beta ran MUCH better.

My wife's computer is SO freaking unstable with 98 it's not funny, works fine with XP.

I've had mixed results on other systems....it's bloody hard to predict.

XP overall has been much more stable in my experience.

As far as Linux goes. once you get it up and running it's mostly hard to take down unless you have hardware that's going out and/or hardware that it just doesn't like. Oddly enough I was running an older version of Linux on a Matrox video card which at the time were REALLY unstable and the thing wouldn't die for anything.

As of Win 2000, Microsoft finally figured out what an OS is supposed to do. Up until then Windows was basically DOS on crack. Many extra features (like graphics, etc), but it didn't really even attempt to prevent a rotten apple application from taking over and destroying the system (like a true "Operating System" is supposed to do).

< what kind of remark is that? Who would I be impressing saying I havent had any problems running a operating system that is over 4 years old? And I DO hope you arent saying I wouldnt lay out the measley few dollars to upgrade it? I dont "work" on my computer, I use if for basic home use, I dont play games on it either, sitting in my spare bedroom to play a game isnt my thing, I would rather play my PS2 in my livingroom. Maybe I took your comment the wrong way, but think before you post a comment like that.
