I can't do pure atkins, I'll go nuts. OK well I'll go even more nuts, anyways it's a bit much for me.

I have done a modified version of it and it works out pretty darned good.

I lost ~45lbs. I think of it as a way of life and not a diet. It's a low carb diet not a no carb diet. I can't agree with p0sta1, his post leaves out a few important points. First the "Atkins diet" is a way to level your carb intake so that it's balanced, not over or under. Protein is a staple of the "diet" but veggies and some fruits are intergral as well. Most of my intake is about 70% veggies and 30% protein, that's not based on any scientific research, just a guess. Example: 6oz steak w/lightly steamed broccoli, rice, large salad (romaine lettuce w/ italian dressing), unsweetened green tea (cold, yum). The rice is a starch of course, I use vegetables to balance my carbs and to add vitamins (rice is just carbs no real nutritional value ). I always use a vegetable or a fruit to balance the carbs to right level. I also drink alot of water, that is very important as well. It's not some revolutionary diet, it's very logical, it's a way of life that works for me.

The one issue that everyone has difficulty with is when you start the "diet", no carbs. That is only in the beginning.

Damn, there are a lot of fatasses out there. Atkins diet might technically work in the short term, but it's not all that healthy for doing it that long. Hell, Atkins didn't/doesn't know jack about nutrition. He's not a dietician if I'm not mistaken. The body is starving itself thin. That ketosis condition really makes people reek like *** from many feet away. To you people that do this Atkins diet, here is a tip - KEEP YOUR MOUTHS SHUT. You smell horrible if you're doing it right.

Want to lose weight? Get off your asses and move. Stop eating so much, too. It's real simple. Energy in, energy out. You take in too much energy, you get fat. High carb diets are not bad at all. That's about all they eat in Japan. Not too many fat asses over there like here in America. Plus the portions are smaller. When I was in the midwest there were fat asses everywhere. So were all you can eat buffets. All you can eat Chinese and Old Country Buffets. Many of these people blamed genetics or something else. Eat less, get leaner. Too bad fatties don't seem to get that.

Too many fatties don't truly want to lose the weight the right way. The right way? Lifestyle and proper diet. Most people want something easy and painless. So eating as the Atkins diet prescribes seems great to them.

I eat like a horse usually. People that know me know that I don't let any food go to waste. But I'm not fat. It's not genetics. It's not some magic. I exercise and keep very active in general. Imagine ******' that. No pity from me for fatties. It their fault ultimately. It's called personal responsibility and I believe in it.

Damn, all this typing got me hungry. Time to eat again.

I went on the diet and exercised, and no I didn't smell funny, LOL!

I quit smoking and gained weight, but being in the military at the time I need to lose the weight. Most people that go on the diet don't know what the hell they are doing, I think that's the biggest problem with the diet.

I always do a lot better at the gym when I'm on the Atkins diet. I don't run out of energy as quickly. It also makes it easier to wake up in the morning and stay awake all day.

But oh no, there's red meat involved! Get your head out of your *** and stop believing everything you hear. Red meat is good for you...end of story. It's high in iron, potassium, and protein. It's not high in fat unless you want it to be, and if you buy good meat, it doesn't have all kinds of chemicals in it.

I just get pissed off when I hear people knock the Atkins diet without trying it, because there really is a lot more to it than weight loss and deprivation.
Hmmm, thats interesting.

Since carbs can be used as energy, and in fact it stores it unless it is called upon (by activity) to some degree.

Fact of the matter is, once you eat carbs again, you gain all the lbs. you lost.

It's been proven time and time again that the atkins diet is unhealthy in it's own ways.

People love a quick fix, but time will tell...the best thing for our body's is a HEALTHY diet (not just sacrificing one type) and lots of exercise.

Shortcuts ALWAYS have their disadvantages.

^^^This is all based on second hand information from friends studying health in nursing programs at my college...not from my own experience^^^

Show me where someone credible (no, not a nutritionist, someone who actually did the testing himself) proved the Atkins diet unhealthy.

I eat carbs now, and I didn't gain back the weight I lost. Oops, you said another incorrect blanket statement. Nice work.

Okay, let me put it like this:

It's like someone coming in here and saying that turning up the PSI on a stock rotary to 20 psi makes it run faster....OF COURSE IT DOES!

And so will the atkins diet for your poundage...

But hey, guess how long that rotary will last? Exactly.

Our bodies are just the same, gotta know what go's on inside a rotary to treat it right. Nutritionists know, scientists know, and the fact still remains: Exercise, Eat right, and be active.

Cutting corners will never work. And BTW, I didn't notice Jerk_Racer's post till after I posted, and he basically said what I meant....that the carbs are fine if you burn them and don't let em sit there cause you won't move.

Hey, I heard that throwing up your food helps you lose weight too! Ask the cheerleaders/wrestlers! :P~

All in good fun, don' start fightin' now.

My MD, Cardiologist, allergist and my wife (A RN with 15 years experience) agree the Atkins diet is better for you than being overweight.
