I was looking at internet for my newly acquired house. My options are either sattelite, which to my knowledge is still rather expensive. Or I can do one of the cellular cards which given I only have a laptop isn't a half bad idea. However I have no 3g coverage near the house and I'm not sure how/ if it works without it( anyone here use this or know?) either given the choices which would any of you be most likely to go with? I'm missing my nopistons time, it's just not the same with the iPhone.

The Satellite is expensive initially, but my provider doesn't throttle or limit bandwith. The cell sticks have limits on them, and the limits aren't that realistic for people who really use their internet connection to it fullest. I watch a lot of TV over the internet with a slingbox, when I calculated it out , the cell stick packages had enough download for about a week of real use on a 80.00 dollar/month package. However I know US cell service is way cheaper than Canadian to.

When we signed up for satellite, they gave us the receiver for free if we signed up for 5 years, so we did that, and its about 50.00 a month service charge. Its been very reliable, only going down once when their main site got hit in a storm. I am not sure if you can router a cell stick, we have 3 computers in the house running off the same connection.

See if you can find a provider with 3g, if not 1rxtt is MISERABLE. Sat isn't as expensive as it used to be, the latency is pretty bad, but it's a hell of a lot better then dial up so if you cant get 3g on Sprint, Verizon or att i would consider sat. Keep in mind on any of the cellular data cards you will be limited to 5gigs of data transfer each month, (even though they call their service unlimited). For some people this is fine, for others no so much.

Thanks for the info. Checked satellite prices guess it'll be around 80 month. I miss my apt Internet and tv for 120 with all the movie channels, sigh... Atleast I can still watch tv with the Internet I guess I just checked hughes net pricing, 60.00 for 1.0mbps download 128 kbps upload. Price is 119 for 2mbps download 300kbps upload. Would i be able to get by on the 1.0 mbps you think? I really have no idea on this ****
