I'm thinking about getting a second generation RX7. I have seen some pretty good prices on them. What are the high and low points, what is great, and what will need to be fixed or modified in order to have a great car? I'm new to Mazdas, but I have heard they are a good bang for the buck. Thanks for the help.

read, read and then read some more. rotaries are the best of cars if taken well care off. make sure u fully understand what it takes to maintain a long lasting rotary engine before getting one. and just dont give up on it when problems arise.

What does it take to maintain a rotary engine? I have never had one before, is it a lot different than a piston engine?

There are alot more sites dedicated to rotary motors. Just gotta search. Theyre alot of fun to drive, and alot easier to work on once you get the hang of it...

It takes a level of knowledge and up-to-date maintenance to keep it running good.

As you may know, even with piston engines, you should replace the oil, filter, fuel filter, etc every some odd miles. Same with keeping the A/F mixture pure...they all can be "Skipped" or have some forgiveness on a piston engine.

Not the case with rotary. Keep your air/fuel mixture right (if you raise boost, you need more fuel...depending on surrounding mods and what PSI). Same with replacing the oil (don't let it get old and black).

For the most part, the rewards are worth it.

I say all of this from knowledge based on what I've read. There are plenty of sticky's here leading you to many FAQ's and articles about rotaries...I've read them ALL.

In fact I have a friend ready to buy a Tii soon, and I told him to read up first. He's excited...and so am I.

I'll be getting an FD by spring. Good luck!
