WHAT IS the name of this movie...

I saw this movie around in 1993 when I was in HS, on VHS at a friends house.
It may have been released around 91' since it was on VHS.
It is about this family that lived in the suburbs; I think there was a wife, son, daughter and Father (white family)..
The father thinks that its a great idea to take his family for the summer on this trip to live on an island, and just give up on modern civilazation.
The father was an inventor or scientist, who was just tired of the fast paced world that we live in..
The kids and the parents object to it greatly at first, but start to enjoy living life on this remote island..
I think there were natives also involved that they met and became close with...
The Father seemed kinda relieved to give up the daily grind, and the kids and the parents slowly started to get used to the 'Outdoors Living'
Over the time that they spent on the island, the Father came up with inventions to fit whatever things that were not present..I remember some Air conditioning, running water/plumbing and Ice Cubes.
Then there was a part in the movie, where the father invents Cold Fusion or something like that; and there was a reactor meltdown, and the islands eco-system was poisoned by the pollutants from the inventions that he made..
PLESAE oh PLEASE will someone tell me the name of this movie.
I know I wasnt the only one to see it.
It had kinda-well known actors in it...I want to see it again cause it was a really deep movie..

thanks vosko, i know about IMDB..but i cant remember the actors, any of the lines, or anything that would pull up a search on this..
it was a big studio like warner bros or mgm or whatever that put the movie out...i just think it was kinda a flop in the theaters..
I am hoping that someone here on this forum saw it or knows what I am talking about...
