faverit has to be the 3rd gen its just bad. i get better gas milage now.

can i get that torqu again?

teknics 12-16-2003 06:53 PM

i knew about piston engines never really touched no rotary or anything. friend showed me his 2nd gen, began explaining the engine, showed me some pics of the engine and i was hooked, the fact that there was something out there i never dealt with and something most people didnt have drew me to it.

i've always aimed for **** people didnt have. i was ahead of the jeep lift craze, now everyone ni my town has one, i was the only kid i knew who owned a durango, and now im part of a unique and small group of rotary owners, and damn proud of it.

I read an article about the top ten used cars under $10,000 in SCC.

Jims5543 12-16-2003 07:47 PM

I went shopping for a used 5.0 Mustang in 1986. I went to a Mazda dealership to see what they had on the used car lot. They did not have any 5.0's. The salesman walked me over to a 1984 RX-7 GS. It didn't have back seats and I was not too keen on that. He told me that it was a "real" sports car. He convinced me to drive it. I bought it. I have owned on and off 5 different RX-7's since then.

Almost bought a 3rd gen but love my TII too much. My favorite is still the FD though.

FikseRxSeven 12-16-2003 07:56 PM

back in 1993 i went with my parent's freind to a mazda dealer and saw this beautiful black r1..... fell inlove with the car, then found out more about the wankel and how unique it was

obcession set in after that

Rotarydragon 12-16-2003 09:27 PM

Was reading up on the history of the NSU Prinz I owned and ran across the NSU Wankel Spyder...was telling my dad about the car and he mentioned that Mazda used the rotary engine in their RX-7 and....

Years later I was sitting in the parking lot of a Vons and saw one sitting next to me and thought "Yeah I'd like one of those now". Two days later my dad bought one at an Salvation Army auction having no clue that I was interested in one.

Saw an NSU Wankel Spyder a couple of years back at a car show I went to with UniqueTII. The guy freaked out cause we knew about the engine and what not. That was freaking cool.

FrestyleFC3S 12-16-2003 09:28 PM

wats a rotary

FD3S DRIFT 12-16-2003 09:30 PM

my dad told me that the RX-7 didnt have a piston engine, i was like what? started doing research and fell in love. so much power in such a little motor!!!

I like anything rotary

Silver Ninety Three 12-16-2003 09:33 PM

When I was riding in a friend's beretta and a red fd blew by us doing 100+ and feeling the wind push the car to the side as the rx-7 passed us.

ROTARYROCKET7 12-16-2003 09:35 PM

Working ina bike shop one of the guys i met there was holding a rotor in his hand and i asked what it was . He said its part of an engine. I said what engine, dont engines have pistons. He said Not this one. I was like hold the **** up, what car is this and he said those 3 famous words, "The Mazda Rx7", since that day 8 years ago i been into rotary and for a year now i have the pleasure of woning two. LOl HURRay..

I'd have to say my mom inspired me to get a Rotary. She used to have a 85 in Germany and nothing like it running wide open on the autobahn

for my real story please donate 5 dollars....

my grandpa had an r100 and rx3.....dad had an rx2.....uncle had an sa rx7.....passed the tradition (see: problem) onto me

mazdadrifter 12-16-2003 10:03 PM

had two 1st gen eclipse's, and they were horrible about slipping timing belts and bending valves... so i did a little research and found out that rx7's didn't need timing belts... that sparked the revoloution....

2 years later I own two 7's and made it to florida because of them, not really sure how the **** that happened.... I drink too much. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

the very first time i met one of my best friends(vspecpgt/harrison) in high school all he did was babble about rx7's and how they have a rotary engine. the 3rd gen is awesome..blah blah blah. back then i was like um oh yea i know what that is. (insert i have no friggen clue what a rotary engine is here) about 6 years later i was just goofing around looking at cars in the paper in florida and saw my future car. i bought that FD the same day i went to see it. about 7 months later my friend that had first introduced me to rx7's got his FD in virgina. LOL our cars are 2 cars apart on the assmebly line. mine is his big brother

rx7girltk 12-16-2003 10:34 PM

dont have one but i was interested in how high it can rev. than i lkearned about it and now its just something i love. i like the fd best but anything with a rotary is fine by me.

I loved 2 cars for a LONG time:

Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR34

Mazda Rx-7 Infini IV FC3S

Since I can't get either one here, I got a base FC. It found me really. I always used to drive by this corner house on the way to work. It looked sad. So I decided to ask the guy if he wanted to get rid of it. He let it go for 500 bucks (460 actually) and all it took to get it running was pulling the EGI fuse and cranking it for a few minutes. It has its problems (see 2nd gen topics and you'll see) but for the price, I love this car. I'm probably going to be getting a TII soon (please god) and I've been in love ever since https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

ultradef 12-16-2003 11:13 PM

My mom actually has owned 2 FCs, and when she blew the engine in her vert, I bought it from her.

REV-Rex.7 12-16-2003 11:36 PM

A few years ago I was looking for a car to buy. I wanted a pretty fast light car that revved high and had a turbo. At first I was intrigued by the 240 Z and the

280 zx, because they were light and cheap. Then I wanted a supra (TURBO). But when I first found out that RX-7s existed and found out that they had the ability to rev over 10,000 RPMs and have turbos, I knew I needed to own one. I guess it was a growth in tastes that made me want a rotary powered engine and the uniqueness about how they function really closed the deal. But currently I a rotaryless. I am negotiating a 1988 TII right now.

When I was really young still in primary school a mates older sister's boyfriend had a white RX-4. We used to hang out there after school. This thing was Bridgeported off it's tits!!! Weber Carby, Full exuast. It was the most amazing thing I had ever heard. It was way over 100db at idle. I was like what the f$%k is that. "It's a rotor" was the reply.

I lived at the edge of our suburb and this guy had to drive past my house to go home at night. I lived on a corner block and late one night I heard him coming up the street. He sat out the front of my place for a few moments and I was wondering what the hell he was doing. Next thing he takes it to about 8K or 9K and drops the clutch. He absolutely took the c#$*t out of it through all gears screaming down the street past my bedroom window.

From that moment on I had to have one when I grew up. I asked my dad and uncles all about them and they said they were quick but unreliable. Everybody tried to talk me out of getting one but my mind was made up. I read everything I could on them, mags, books etc to find out as much as possible.

Going through high school my sisters boyfriend and a mate had a Series 1 RX-7 and a 12A 808 Coupe. Riding in them just made me want one even more.

When I turned 17 I bought a Series 2 RX-7. Left it stock and it ran like a dream everyday for about six years. Until I traded her in about a year ago for my Series 4. I plan on keeping it for a little while longer until the finances are there for a Series 6 or Series 7.

My ultimate dream in life is to own an FD. I will die happy after that. I think I will have a rotary always. I love them. Will have to get an RX-8 if I have kids to put them in the back.

Long live the Rotors..

Judge Ito 12-17-2003 07:16 AM

My story is quite long so I'll make a super long story short. When I was born in 1971 my mother was taking to the hospital to give birth to me in a 1970 Mazda R100 station wagon with a 10A bridgeport engine @ 10,000 rpms full throttle. Later she was rushed into the operating room. The Doctor that handled the C-section on my moms and later cut my hombilical cord was a rotary engine guru and before he cut my cord he blessed and or kinda of baptized me with the good rotary engine spirit. Later through out my early years I had a rotary engine angel following, guiding me. When I became of age (12 years old) I worked on my first Rx3 12A. Ill cut this story short and finishing with my signature. I did not choose, I was chosen.

Some of this story is fiction some of it is TRUE. I surely do Love the rotary engine.

Baldy 12-17-2003 07:51 AM

I only had a crappy old motorcycle, then a nice new one. I never was much into cars, I didn't get my license until I was 18, and I didn't get my first car until I was 20. I learned all about piston motors, and then rotary motors on www.howstuffworks.com, where I quenched my extreme thirst for knowledge.

I saw an add for 2 2nd gen rx-7s in the paper for $1,700, and got all excited. My wife just said, "You want 'em?" So we went that same day, and she bought them for me. I thought she was joking up until she whipped out that checkbook.

Oh, so what inspired me was that from what I read, it was reliable and powerful, different, and for $1,700 a good running car with a parts car is a good deal.

BrandonDrecksage 12-17-2003 10:35 AM

what is a rotary?

twstdmtl 12-17-2003 11:10 AM

The details of my childhood are quite inconsequential. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten...

No really though. When my folx got divorced (late 80's) my dad bought his first 1st gen. He took care of the fluids like a fanatic but he ragged the car hard... And it loved it That gold 12a pegged 288,000 miles before it gave up the farm. By this time this was his DD he already had other sevens, but I was amazed at how indestructable these little cars were + the performance factor just blew my mind.

He told me about rotors and I helped with his rebuilds and port jobs over the years until I left for the Navy in 1998. I was stationed in Japan and saw everykind of tricked out seven imaginable. Even what I believe most Americans will never see, the FD's that they kept making (for awhile anyway) after they were no longer imported here. Hence my dream rotary car the Efini RX-7 engineering FD from the late 90's JDM.

But even then I loved the car and not the engine and it's properties. It was not until I moved back to America 2002 that I really realized just how unique the rotary engines truly are.

I was gonna buy a 74ish cosmo early this fall but it was trashed but while at the junkyard I saw a new arrival covered in leaves and some serious grime... An FC!!! My dad and I went over and started chatting with the owner of the yard. He wanted 600 but he gane in and sold it for 550. The rest is history, she looks a little rough now but I have the vision and she has the potential.

rotories make teh world go round... not up and down

Dramon_Killer 12-17-2003 12:31 PM

Two summers ago I didnt care about cars whatsoever. Then one day at a summer camp my friend pulls up in his Prelude. I think to myself, hey that looks kinda cool, i wish i had a cooler looking car. After that I was drawn in by cars, before that the only car i knew about was the Toyota Supra but i still couldnt even tell one on the road often mixing them up with new Celicas.

My first love was the 300zx TT. After spending much time on the 300zx boards and realizing that they were out of my price range i decided to go look for something else. The URL was www.300zxforums.com, so naturally I tried www.rx7forums.com and my life changed forever. I was redirected to nopistons and it was then i realized that there were RX-7's outside of the 3rd gens. I also learned what the rotor meant and it amazed me that the RX-7 was the only car on the road without pistons. After this moment I knew i had to get one of these unique little cars. I didnt have much money saved up but after looking through the classified ads i found a 2nd gen for 1500. I thought to myself, 1500 for a car? 1500 for an RX-7? My dad went by to check it out, ran like a top but alas it was an automatic and I decided to wait. Eventually I bought a shell for 350, it was goign to be my project, it was a 87 base. But after major title problems and after i realized it was going to cost way more than i had once though i sold it taking a 75 dollar hit. I once again needed a car.

My hunger thirsted and all summer i skimmed car ads on every forum. For a time i lost sight and just needed a car any car. Many came, many went, but most were too far away. Then the Supra came along. It was truly a gift, not the Supra itself but what it represented. I learned stick on it and learned what a car with more performance than an average sedan felt like. The the time came to sell it. I sold the car and finally I had enough money to get a Turbo II. I had to ship it from california but when i got it the elation was umatchable. I finally had my dream car.

I am still getting used to it and am far from being one with my car but i can now look into my garage and think to myself, this is how it is supposed to be.

anarchy 12-17-2003 12:35 PM

new here and hoping to be able to find a reasonably priced 3rd gen...

I don't kno wmuch about rotaries..never had any exposure to them.

As i learned mroe about the design of engines and went beyond hp,liters, hp per ci, how many cams ect ect...

I thought that the rotary was a real brave attempt by mazda specially on the 3rd gen to make it a poor mans super car and beat many piston engines while at it.

Once again i think mazda and Ford were brave to release the rx-8 and it becoming at sucess, just recently read the rx-8 being compared to the 350z and winning the comparo.

i'm 21 but i read hot rod (they recently put the STI over the cobra and rightly so) so i'm more seasoned on big v8s ect ect.

The fact that the CSBs are SUPER easy to work on, simple and make shitloads of power on pump gas (nice write up on 600hp on pump gas) without mcuh $$$ spent. It became TOO easy and TOO simple.

I'm that type of person that needs ot be unique, and After seeing a couple of 9 SECOND 3RD GENS whip ass at the track..and even when they lost they ALWAYS gained on the top end.......... as i learned more and more..i'm feeling bored with old tech and find the rx-7s(specially) whole design and less is more approach very enticing.

did imention it's GREAT looking?also the rx-7 crowd Has to be Tech-savvy and turbo savvy as their cars are not the usual piston engines.

and here I am now

LethalRotor 12-17-2003 01:27 PM

It actually started a long time ago for me, but i never really got into it until my best friend decided he was moving out of state (which he never did) so he sold me his 83 for 100 bucks. After driving it for a while, a guy at work told me he had a friend selling a yellow one for 800 but the seals were shot. After i went and looked at it i found out it was a turbo II. I picked it up and got a spare motor with the car. The plan was to fix and sell it to finish my turbo colt. but after doing research my mind changed and i probably wont finish the colt. ha.
