DO NOT GO TO UTI!!!!
I CANNOT URGE THIS ENOUGH!!!!
If you want to pay 30k + to learn how to change oil, check a spark plug, and change brake pads, then by all means go for it. But if you have any, I mean any basic knowledge about cars, then you would be wasting your time.
Me and 4 other friends went down to the Phoenix campus after high school and ALL of us dropped out in about 4 phases. That school is a joke and they tell you these amazing lies to get you to go there. Every kid that goes there is a straight ricer. They are all idiots, and the teachers are almost as dumb.
I urge you to take me seriously here.
I wanted to get out of that school after the 2nd class, but I kept telling myself, naw, it will get harder, then I found out when I was in my 4th phase that the 3 I had been in before were the "hardest ones", i dropped that school in a heartbeat.
Sorry for the rant, I just promised myself I would do anything I could to stop people from wasting there time on that wretched place.
Thank you.

The extent of the rotary that I was "taught" was that they were "oil leakers" hahahaha.
I ended up teaching the instructors more about rotary then they could handle, especially when I pulled out my laptop to show them standalone. hahaha. I think a few wide eyed ricers found out that stand alone is real and not just in hollywood.
Anyways, I dunno man. I dont know your background or knowledge of cars. My advice to you is that IF you do want to be a tech, go get a job at any dealership as a lube tech and see how you like working in the dealership atmosphere. I worked at a Saturn dealer while in Phoenix and I have to say the dealership world is a dirty, conniving, corrupted place. I disliked it alot to say the least. I got a good picture of what being a tech was like from just hanging around them, talking to them, helping with a few small things here and there.
That is how I would approach it if I were you. The bottom line is that you dont need UTI to become a tech at a dealer, which is basically all they train you to do. And even, after a degree from UTI, you still have to be an apprentice at the dealership, which you can move up to from a lube tech position anyways.
The only exception is the graduate programs or whatever they are called like Audi, or BMW, whatever. Those programs take you in depth inot those cars, but my friend was roomates with one of those guys and pretty much he hated it, but was so far into the program that he didnt want to quit then, so he was stuck. Dont be that guy....
Hope this helps.

Oh, yeah there are other schools like Wyotech and some local tech college might have an auto program, but I have never talked to anyone from Wyo, so no idea there, but guy I know in Minneapolis goes to Dunwoody Institute and they have auto there. He likes it, but he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer either.

I too shared Matt's experience. I almost dropped out the 3rd day I was there, but I was convinced to stay in for the assoc. degree. I didn't make it much further.
For once in my life, and I can't believe I am saying this, but I wish I would have listened to the guys on the internet!!!!!!!
