Hey Phins, whats the scoop with this taking up hard drive space? How does one not take it up? Does my avatar take up space? Ill get rid of it if you like?

 

No your avatar is hosted elsewhere it does not use hard drive space. We don't really have an issue at this point, I am not really all that concerned, there are a couple people who are uploading the same files 3 and 4 times a day, rather then uploading it once and linking to it in subsequent posts.



Basically feel free to upload pics, don't sweat it, but if it is something you have already uploaded, have the curtousy to find the previous post and link it.



I'll even put it to you this way, those that are abusing it will soon know because they will no longer be allowed to post pics... there are very few of you that are so don't get too concerned.

 

The only reason I mentioned it at all was because I noticed our upload folder go from 42 megs to 228 or something like that in less than two months and I was seeing some people post the same pics, over and over again. I decreased the size of the pics that can be uploaded for starters, and I am hoping at some point will have the ability to prune images that are more than 90 days old as they are rarely ever looked at again.



Like I say, don't get too worried, we have 40 gigs of storage on this server. Keep in mind we have to host sites on the server as well, as long as it doesn't cut into the number of sites I can host, then no worries and we are a long ways away from that.



I would not be surprised to see nopistons move to a fully dedicated server within a year or so, but we need to be making enough in advertising to afford that first, then we will have a full 40 gigs to use up LOL
