Hey,
I was wondering.
Some of the new high dollar cars are coming out with the Tiptronic Transmission.
For those who dont know it is manual and automatic in one tranny. It goes through the automatic gears but has a section offset that u can drive manual without a clutch.
I was wondering if this is possible to put into an fd.
And also,
if there is the exact oposite of this. and have a manual transmission and have an offset for automatic.

There are different kinds of Sami-auto's. You have those which don't use any clutching at all. But than you have those that use the clutch only on downshifts to match the engine revs. It is possible to put those tranny's into an FD, but it expensive in some cases and usually the ones that aren't mad bling, wont hold a lot of torque.

Well, the reason i wanted to know this is because i'm not to good at driving manual.
And when i get the car i will be in the city. And i dont want to wreck an fd as soon as i get it.
So i wanna be able to drive automatic while i'm in traffic, etc.
But i wanna be manual when i want to run it or for the sport feel once i learn to drive it well.
It may be expensive but would it be as expensive as buying another fd. one manual and one auto ??
Just a idea i'm kicking around.
But the one i'd really like would be a manual transmission, but have like a 6th gear and that gear be automatic. then have the manual gears if i wanted it. The automatic gear wouldnt use the clutch but the manual would as normal. I dont want the one from the mr2 spider where its clutchless. cuz to me u might as well have a full automatic.

If you're thinking that way, than a manual isn't for you period. Manuals are all about connecting the driver to the car. You know what I mean, it's about pure driving pleasure, weather it's in traffic or on the highway or in the city. If you're not good at driving a manual, buy yourself a beater manual car and learn with it.
