Mebbe it opens a fan base and TV market in Japan?
I think they should force the manufacturers to run a support race every weekend with showroom stock cars of what their "stock" car is supposed to represent.
Weld a cage, fire suppression and speed rated tires into an Intrepid off the dealer lot! I'd watch that race and turn off the main race.

Those are for the minivans!
They **** me off when they complain after one of our gearboxes moves 1.5 million vans and then breaks, but their minivans need three transmissions to get to 80,000 kms!

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Toyota do well in the All Japan Grand Prix? (You know, the one with the crazy cars like the mugen NSX). I know when they developed the Tom's supra that it beat out the skyline that was dominating the competition. NASCAR is a waste of money and resources considering it is a muscle car based sport. I mean, look at the GTO in the D1 competition, most of the people were boo-ing it even though it was pulling some pretty crazy drifts.
Lesson: Keep to what you know, don't go prancing into American territory, and don't go drifting into Japanese territory. The reason I think Toyota doesn't do too well in competition racing is because they are a producer for the mass market, and not for production cars. Once upon a time they had an MR2, Supra, and a GT-four celica. Now they only have their 7th gen california designed celica which will soon be getting the lotus engine. Tells you how toyota deals with their high performance lines, they don't.
