well toyota wants/wanted to get into nascar, i understand that nascar made toyota design and build a pushrod v8 to run.... and they are/were/have done it!

i'm interested to hear other thoughts, but heres 2 of my own.

nascars a bunch of suckers, toyota spent 400milllion last year in f1; to loose, nascars 20million is chump change.

and two, toyota cant seem to win anthing on pavement, they've tried at lemans a bunch of times and never won, going on 3 seasons in f1 again with no sucess, i dont think they will do any better in nascar, they have billions and billions of dollars but this hasnt helped them one bit

rfreeman27 06-01-2004 10:35 PM

I doubt toyota would get much fan support anyways in nascar

RotaryXSevn 06-01-2004 10:43 PM

very FEW fan support

banzaitoyota 06-01-2004 10:58 PM

NASCAR is the WWF of motorsports

TYSON 06-01-2004 11:00 PM

I think they're already running in the truck series this year?

89 Rag 06-01-2004 11:00 PM

Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota? It's like that what's wrong with this picture game you give to your kids.

I think that Toyota will be disliked by the rednecks, hillbilly's and the rest of the shallow end of the gene pool that watches NASCAR.... lol

TYSON 06-01-2004 11:11 PM

Mebbe it opens a fan base and TV market in Japan?

I think they should force the manufacturers to run a support race every weekend with showroom stock cars of what their "stock" car is supposed to represent.

Weld a cage, fire suppression and speed rated tires into an Intrepid off the dealer lot! I'd watch that race and turn off the main race.

TYSON 06-01-2004 11:25 PM

Those are for the minivans!

They piss me off when they complain after one of our gearboxes moves 1.5 million vans and then breaks, but their minivans need three transmissions to get to 80,000 kms! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Toyota do well in the All Japan Grand Prix? (You know, the one with the crazy cars like the mugen NSX). I know when they developed the Tom's supra that it beat out the skyline that was dominating the competition. NASCAR is a waste of money and resources considering it is a muscle car based sport. I mean, look at the GTO in the D1 competition, most of the people were boo-ing it even though it was pulling some pretty crazy drifts.

Lesson: Keep to what you know, don't go prancing into American territory, and don't go drifting into Japanese territory. The reason I think Toyota doesn't do too well in competition racing is because they are a producer for the mass market, and not for production cars. Once upon a time they had an MR2, Supra, and a GT-four celica. Now they only have their 7th gen california designed celica which will soon be getting the lotus engine. Tells you how toyota deals with their high performance lines, they don't.

SoniX 06-02-2004 05:25 AM

to be exact, the lotus will be getting a toyota engine, not the other way around, that being said, I want one, they are effin sexy.

1gendreemer 06-02-2004 06:33 AM

I'm all about shakin up NASCAR. I'd love to see Toyota go in there and start stompin the big three! I'd go to bars during the races just to hear the hillbillys bitch about how the Japs must be cheating or something. Given Toyota's record in F1 though, I dunno if they can pull it off....though the fact that they're doing well in the truck series gives me hope. F the big 3.

Drifting if the figure skating of motorsports.

YEP

NASCAR=WWF

Drifting=Figure Skating (aka Brian Boytonno wannabees)

Toyota does well in JGTC and they also do well in the BAJA 1000.

banzaitoyota 06-02-2004 08:38 AM

Hey DEFPRUN: You running that diesel on Veggie yet?

I agree completely with that statement.

I mean, its the only motorsport where a car can be painting bright ****** pink, and get tonnes of respect.

GO YASHIO!

LOL!

im too broke and/or cool to go through with the conversion. First off i need to get the kit, or fab it myself. Than i need a steady supply of cheap or free veggie oil, which i dont have. And than i need the space to keep the oil and filter it!

Now if i can convert my car to a diesel electric hybrid that gets 100mpg i could just buy veggie oil from the store and it would be viable...even at 4 bucks a gallon...

drifting isnt japanese territory. we were watching french ice racing and they were drifiting much more (angle, consistency, lenth of drift) than any of the jdm crowd. or look at sprint cars, or wrc rally. drifting actually is older than "grip" driving back in the day (pre 1912) cars didnt have front brakes.

if you think old cars are slow automobile magazine took a 34 grand prix car, 58 lotus, a 65 gp car, and a new gt3 porsche to a race track. the porsche was faster than the 34' but dead even with the 58 lotus, the other car was faster

It mostly because of the way it's scored. If you're being judged, it's not a sport. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

Boxing? Wrestling? Any Martial Arts...

mazdadrifter 06-02-2004 10:09 AM

toyota is more american than chevy now, but i'm sure it'll take the rednecks another 50 years to catch onto that.

75 Repu 06-02-2004 10:11 AM

did you guys read the "are you gay?" thread.. NASCAR is gay..

Seraphx7 06-02-2004 12:20 PM

I say if Toyota goes Nascar we all rent Corollas for the Daytona 500. and park in the infield and taunt the Rednecks. whoever gets pelted with a Budweiser can or hit with a folding metal chair first wins a prize. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683431.gif

The Toyota powered Elises are getting rave reviews over here, they seem to be better than I thought they would be - the K-series Rover engine is pretty capable (even if it does blow head gaskets at 80,000 miles)

All can also have a definitive winner. They can go to judges, and look how well that works out these days.

A KO or pinfall is hard for the French and Russian judges to lie about. The only way to score a definitive win in figure skating is if you break everyones knee cap before the start.

Srce 06-02-2004 03:52 PM

The reason why NASCAR won't allow a Japanese car company into the Nextel Series is because they've learned their lesson with the Craftsman Truck Series. The Japs are starting to take over the pick-up market with the Tundra and Titan and it seems that the Tundra's present development is conected with what Toyota puts into the race truck.

NASCAR knows that a Toyota engine, and Soloara chassis is already years ahead of anything else from Ford, Dodge, Pontiac and Chevy so they try to keep the Japs from showing that to the rest of the Motorsports world by not allowing them to compete.

TYSON 06-02-2004 03:54 PM

Anyone who believes production cars share even one component with what you see at NASCAR is insane.

I don't know, seems that everybody uses their Motorsports backgrounds to further street car development. BMW's SMG gearbox, Ferrari's F1 gearbox, the McLaren F1 is a racecar in disguise, the F50 is what Ferrari intended for a street F1 car but got messed up with emissions. The Focus RS is basically a rally car for the street, so why should it be any different from NASCAR, afterall, it's the only thing American car manufacturers have.
