From the looks of thing the only part that the country is really worried about is when we get to baghdad (sp?) Figuring most of the units that are out in more or less the desert will either surrender (france must have done some population seeding in Iraq) or put up very little resistance. This won't be the same war as Gulf War I ... I wonder if it'll be more of a Sarajevo (spelling > me) where you get sniping from buildings in baghdad making it rather difficult to advance into the city which is already heavily fortified

I'm working waaaaayyyyy downtown NYC. I can see Italian warships circling the city by the harbor. SWAT guarding the stock exchane with their submachineguns.

Its scary stuff. But I dont know why any of that is nessessary. Its not like they can invade us. And we certainly can shoot down an enemy engaging in gorilla warfare on our turf. Cant kill what you cant see.

anyways, just thought id share.

they have 1/3 the forces they had in the gulf war and we all saw what happened that time.

I'm not sure if you guys are on target with what this war means for us here in the States. We will see retaliation here. It will not be in the form of an invasionary force landing on our beaches. It will not be bombs falling from Iraqi jets. It will not be in the form of ICBM's launched from Iraqi destroyers. However, it will be in the form of suicide bombers, small terrorist / garrilla cells sabotaging (sp) or kamikazee-ing themselfes. There will be additional US civilian casualties. And unfortunately, we value life too greatly to be able to withstand much of that type of attack (this is actually a good thing IMO - shows the maturity of our thought on what civilizations should look like).

That is what I'm worried about. I'm not starting a discussion here. Just want to point out that the war will not be over, when our troops take Baghdad, and their pathetic excuse for an army.

how exactly is it suicide bombing? i agree with the gov't (a rare occasion) it's a homocide bombing, not a suicide bombing, because with suicide you go with the direct intent of killing yourself, with homocide

you go with the intent of killing others, your own death is simply an adverse effect.

Also who mentioned what it would do to us here? All we have said is that in iraq itself they are as dangerous, atm, as a 2 year old with a lego set. Admittedly I'm awaiting the retaliation but why should we fear the retaliation? Iraq isn't fearing our attack so why should we be the weak hearted people and fear some retaliation? For when fear comes, that is when they accomplish their goals. I'm sure that people will begin the whole stocking up on food and water, and retreating to bomb shelters and **** will happen soon enough, hell people are making a killing on the selling of gasmasks and cleansuits already. Honestly if someone in my daily life tells me they are going to do something like that i will hit them, HARD. I'm more afraid of myself then I am of retaliation or even death, when war comes you must throw out all fears, stand proud, and await your fate while delivering someone else their own fate.

Also i know some of the thing i said could perhaps anger you but im not trying to be argumentative just sharing my opinion and hopefully you'll respect as mine as I honestly respect yours.
