Spoofed PayPal emails have been going around for a while.

I've sent a bunch to PayPal for verification.



If you have a question on an alleged PayPal email, send it back to them for verification. There is one of those spoofed emails that is rather tricky as the mouse-over on the URL link looks legit - but the bitch redirects you! Rather nasty!



Also, I've noticed PayPal does NOT usually put links back to their website in their emails. Also, they rarely send out emails themselves.



What's more disturbing is I got a supposedly spoofed email TODAY supposedly from eBay - asking about a 1 cent charge to my charge card which was declined - WTF, eBay doesn't require a CC! I sent the message back to spoof@ebay.com for verification. The red flag was thy URL was numerical on mouse-over - kinda suspicious.

There's a Citibank scam like this going around, coming from a person called 'Support'. The message says you need to verify your account due to some security problems. It has a link to a webpage with a Citibank logo and a place for you to fill out your account info, password, etc. Honestly, it looks pretty legit, but if you view the origination of the message, it's coming from a Hotmail server, not Citibank. Pretty sneaky.

Yah, I've gotten one similar email. Gave me a bit of a scare, looks legitimate on first inspection, but if you mouse-over the link, it isn't what it claims to be.



NEVER follow a link in an email to logon to your paypal account.



Being a cautious fellow, I opened a new checking account with a minimum balance just for my Paypal account. All my purchases are billed to my CC. Even if they gain access to it, they won't get much.



I would never allow Paypal access to my primary checking account.

 

I got an e-mail from e-bay (actually from e-bay) saying that they will never ask for anything in an e-mail. I thought that was nice of them.
