I would say a 900 and up. |
i agree..also how much do you weigh and how tall are you that can help decide also. and what kind of bike. crotchrocket or harley type.
|
Get what you want.. used or new.. but be safe..
I don't beleive in the started bike thing.. you just need to have control.. if not you should not be on a bike.. Phinsup once told me to get what you want or you will regret it.. I think thats very true.. |

I think thats very true.. you dont want to be riding along and some guy comes along side you with a bike you were thinking of and you get that sinking feeling that you should have just spent the extra money and got the better bike. plus- we like to have the best dont we? |

Thanks for the advise https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Which one would get more attention, and which is louder? I prefer Harley's more, cause they are louder than ****, and are good for cruising from point A to point B. The "crotchrockets" are just fast. You can redline at like 11,000rpm which is nuts. Just don't get yourself in an accident. Harley's are much better. Especially custom ****. Looks awesome. None of that OCC and WCC ****, independent stuff. Good luck, and decide wisely.
|
I've listed fast bikes, and below them, slower bikes of the same model. Needless to say, they're all FAST. Some are just super fasterest.
Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Suzuki GSX-R 600 or 750 Honda CBR 954RR Honda CBR 600RR Yamaha YZF-R1 ::drools:: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif Yamaha YZF-R6 If you're feeling adventurous, drunk, and suicidal if you will... Get a Suzuki Hayabusa and slap Nitrous on that bitch. I'll give you 15 seconds to live. |

Just to clarify, a "harley-type" is referred to as a cruiser. Harleys are over-priced, outdated technology. When people ask if my bike is a harley, it's as if someone asked if your RX-7 is a honda.
That being said, don't do the starter bike crap. Just get something that fits you, and spend a lot of time with it before you go balls-out. And definitely take a rider safety course (you'll also get a break on insurance for it). I have a friend that got in 2 wrecks in less than 8 months on his sv650, because he thought he was ready to go conquer twisties, and every-day traffic. I learned on a 750cc cruiser, and I rode that thing around my neighborhood about 4,000 times before I took to the open road. I've never been in a wreck, and my bike only fell over once while parked (on a hill, in the rain, while running). |
Actually, the newer sport bikes go up to 14K or 15K rpm. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
Personally I like the naked standard bikes. for older and cheaper Suzuki GS500E Newer and faster SV650 Good luck.... don't kill yourself. |
alot of people start out with a 600
so that would be the best thing to do then next season buy a bigger bike thats what i did and 4 of my friends but its your bike, your money, your life. Good luck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Hayabusa! Hayabusa!
|
I was also thinking of getting a bike. I have a patient of mine that has a beautiful sport bike. I forgot the make but it is 1200CC.
He took a course here in Fort Worth. It was a 2 day intensive course on how to learn to ride. When he was done, he said he felt like he had been riding forever. taking the course also waives your on-cycle test to get your license. You only have to pass the written. I am definitely going to take it. If you have one in your area I would probably take it. Greg |
definetly dont get a starter bike just use some self control and dont kill yourself!!!!
riding is easy if you can drive stick its exactly the same pretty much you just have to get used to shifting. first time i got on one didnt stall and havent stalled since. |
If its your first bike seeing as how your 160lbs and 6 foot + I would say any bike with a engine bigger then 750cc. Honda CBR's ive read are the most well balanced bikes, but I was looking ot get a Suzuki GSXR 600, but im only 5'5 @ 110 lbs. Anyhoo be sure not to get to old of a bike. I would say get no bike older then a 97. AND DO NOT GET A AIR COOLED BIKE !!!!!!. Any bike in decent condition wround the 97-99 area with decent mileage should run you any where from $2000.00 - $4000.00 and in the bike world 20k miles is allot. I found a bike that had 15k on the engine and the guy was selling it for $2500;00 I thought it was a hell of a deal untill I found out bike engine are good for about 20k - 30k miles untill it needs rebuilt

Get insurance with Progressive. They have the best motorcycle rates, hands down. If anybody knows better, please let me know. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |

Sorry I had a massive BRAIN FART and just couldn't spell cruiser for some reason. Didn't mean to sound like a dumb-ass. Thanks for your input everyone, it was alot more than I expected. |
IM 5'9, I was 155 lbs when I got my ZX-11, trust me if you get
a 600 you will want a bigger bike in a matter of weeks. |

triumph speed triple ducati monster still sports bikes, just nude. Most any of the manufacturers is going to make a good bike. I like the Honda VFR's for the motor and single-sided swingarm. It is a bit more of an upright sport-cruiser type and the seat seems like it is made for fat America but it's one of the sweetest sounding motors I have ever heard; motorcycle, car or anything else. V4. :] I would look for something you definitely felt comfortable on. Keep your options open and shop around. The motorcycle shops here love to gouge the locals. |
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I've had a few bikes. and have ridden many. fav. so far was ducati 996. Yes you should get what feels good to you and what you feel most balanced on..I fit best on the R6. tried to ride the ZX-6 but didn't fit my balance as well. now since it is you first bike take a motercycle safty course..that way you avoid the bike test at dmv. If you have that class they just give you a lic. ( in Nevada anyway). just don't over ride your skill. Now with how much you weigh don't go over a 600 cc bike. You will lay it down, you will scare the crap out of yourself.
Insurance..don't use state farm, gieco, progressive..got to this place. they started out insuring just bikes. many guys that I work with that ride use this place GMAC 1-800-325-1088 |
I am waiting to get my TII sold but I am going with a 2004 Yamaha R6....I would love to get a R1, but money dictates for now, plus 180hp in a 400lb bike seems ******* insane. I think my friiends CBR 600RR is ******* nuts. Farm Bureau has good insurance rates I think....I was quoted $47/mo for full coverage on the R6.
|
i really like the r6 also because of my size and the price is reasonible. it also looks sick
|
You shouldn't go big at 1st. maybe 600cc or smaller. Get smoking that you don't care about & you can trash. I knew two guys that have died starting too big, no sh!t! A good thing to ALWAYS remember when riding, is it is a form a transportation. Be safe, start small & never stop learning
I would post some pics of my bikes but........ |
