XP has security, but as pointed out earlier in the thread, we were around it in like 15minutes, first thing we tried too, comp just took a long time to boot up.
if we wanted to we could prolly make it so our IT guy has acess to nothing

Easy fix, hire someone that uses Linux, make all the servers Linux.
That way, besides being cheaper, more stable and more secure the person providing IT for them HAS to know their **** to even work on the network.
yeah, but unfortunately you're asking a company to spend a boatload for initial changeover compared to paying 0 and hoping they hire a good windows admin. plus you're going to pay more for a linux guy cause of lower supply.

exactly, xp has security if you give it security unfortunately, most users (including high-profile bosses) complain that they have to do too many steps to do certain stupid little tasks, so they influence your boss to make a policy to open up the doors more :/
and then you get chewed out because of a virus outbreak because you kept the aim ports open because a boss wanted to talk on aim to his kids

how many man hours were spent setting up linux servers to handle what you guys use them for? also, i applaud their efforts if they were able to take all existing hardware and have it all function properly in linux without issues (either that or extrememly ). although, if you only use your servers for file-sharing, it's not tough at all.
when i worked for a fairly large company, the hardest part of selling linux was making sure everything we did now would stay the same on the client-end. obviously, for file and print serving, that was simple, but trying to setup a lotus notes server without being allowed to buy a server license (i was stuck to beta builds for the most part) to toy around with, it became a big issue trying to sell linux. same for a SAV server, etc.
then again, they didn't believe that our sourcefire (IDS) was nothing but a computer that ran linux and snort :/

put the penguin down! the IT guy cant figure out windows 2000, (or xp... ), do you think he could handle linux?
linux people can have turbo miatas and get passed by 53 year olds (with written repair orders!) in non turbo miatas, like they arent even moving!

this whole turbocharged miata thing really bothers me..
Most people agree a miat is a womans car
So guys that drive miata: Like to identify with woman
then they add the turbo so they can be blown
= pole smokers!!!!!!! or at least closet pillow biters!
