why cant i put on a new avatar......everytime i try to put a new one up i get the "error: upload failed" thing....why is this happening?

i swore i read somewhere there was a file size limit but i looked again it says there isnt one...



what is the three letter file extension? i believe it only accepts .gif and .jpg/.jpeg
