If I assign each letter of the alphabet a number from 1-26 starting with A and going alphabetically to Z then I get a pattern that looks like this:

15 20 20 6

6 19 19 5

14 20

If you extend that you get:

14 20 20 5 -->N T T E

5 19 19 13 -->E S S M

13 20 20 4 -->M T T D

etc.

How's that?
This is what I see:

O N M L K

T T T T T

T T T T T

F -> E-> D-> C-> B

F E D C B

S S S S S

S S S S S

E D C B A

So we're going 1 letter lower in the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th positions.
still dont get it ace.
The format didn't come out properly. Try this:

OTTFFSSE

NTTEESSD

MTTDDSSC

LTTCCSSB

KTTBBSSA

Ok, rotarychainsaw is correct in the #2 brain teaser. Good job dude!

More of you might have gotten it if my wording hadn't been incorrect. Sorry about that guys, completely my fault. Its supposed to say, "Identify the pattern and CONTINUE" rather than "repeat"

Here's the answer:

O ne

T wo

T hree

F our

F ive

S ix

S even

E ight

N ine

T en

E leven

T welve

T hirteen

.... and so on

As for the #1 brain teaser, you can only cut ONE link at a time. NO DOUBLE CUTS ALLOWED. Also, the salesman must pay for the hotel room [B]EVERY[B] night he stays there. 13BACE you are very close, I think.

As for the #1 question the answer is to cut the chain at link between link #1/#2 and #3/#4. This leaves the chain in three sections looking like this: O OO OOOO.

On the first night the salesman would give the hotel manager the single link. O

On the second night the man takes back the single link and gives the manger the double link. OO

On the Third night the man gives the single link back to the manager. O OO

On the Fourth night the man takes back both the single and the double link and gives the manager the quadruple link. OOOO

On the fifth night the man gives the manger the single link again. OOOO O

On the sixth night the man takes back the single link and gives the manager the double link. OOOO OO

On the seventh night the man then gives the single link back again. OOOO OO O

Voila!

The salesman and the manager had a pre-arranged agreement not to go to the pawn shop until the week was over.

What about this one...

A man and two women B) walk into a hotel and ask to hire the room. The manager tells them the room will cost $30 for a night. They agree and put in $10 each in order to pay for the room and walk upstairs. A few minutes later the manager realises the room only costs $25 per night, so he sends one of his staff upstairs with five single dollars refund the customers. Once upstairs, the kid walks into the room and gives each person $1 back, and puts the final $2 in his pocket.

The question: If each person paid $10, then got $1 back, they paid $9 (each), right? The kid has $2... what happened to the final dollar?

What final dollar? Out of the original $30, the hotel has $25, the kid has $2 and the man and two women have $3. 25+2+3=30. Basically, Each person actually paid $8.33 to the hotel, then each gave the kid .66 cents. That comes out to $27 and then they have their $3 left over.

Maybe I'm missing something. Did you write the riddle right?
