We have our network cables running next to the wall and under mats when they go past doorways. I don't think the landlord would want us putting new wires into the walls.

My buddy has a house on his dads property and runs a cat five out his second story window and over to his dads house (47 feet) where it (barely) plugs into his dads comp, its hilarious. I think the hurricane took it down tho.
