Sometimes, when my boss can't be around the office to give me small jobs/tasks...he leaves me packets of files/folders and leaves sticky's on them telling me what he wants done.

Today, I walk in and there's a DVD case with a note on it that simply says "Dan". I take off the sticky, and it's a done-up Brochure for the new Chrystler Crossfire.

It's quite obvious to me he wants me to check it out for him, being he knows I am into cars. He has seen me come to work in 4-5 different cars when I've only worked here for one year, as well...he's seen the countless Rx7 wallpapers I have put up around our office PC's.

Anyways, I popped in the brochure CD and checked out the new Crossfire. Seemingly obvious, they are in competition with the Rx8, 350z, and even the porsche boxter.

They make it out to be some Gran Touring track car. It boasts a SOHC (WTF?) 3.2 Litre V6, going nil-60 in "Under 7 seconds" (wow!...6.6). It pumps out 215hp---All of this encased in an ugly, 3000lb (not bad) Chrystler 2-seater coupe (not the first name you think of when you consider a sports coupe) rating 17-27 mpg (thats a big range!) with a 15.6 gallon tank. To top it off, MSRP *starts* @ $35k.

Now, if you ask me, I'd much rather prefer something that's a convertable if it's going to be a sports coupe...especially the cheaper Rx8 (Starting at $25-27) which boasts 0-60 around 6 TOPS and a 14.5 ET.

What other cars should I mention to my boss about? I assume he left this for me to check out to get my opinion, but I'd like to offer other alternatives (Rx8 being one of em!). I wish he left it cause he planned on buying it for me, but...somehow I doubt that's the case (As cool and nice as he is...).

Also, what was the original HP # for the manual Rx8? They re-released the specs as 238hp manual, and 197hp Auto..but what was the original specs? (I think it was 255-265 manual and 210-215auto right?)

The engine in the Crossfire is the same one that's in the SLK.

Overpriced hunk of junk, if you ask me...the car looks good, but the performance isn't there.

A pal of mine works in the autobody shop at our local Chrysler dealership. The owner is the typical small town big head type. He would gouge his own mother for a profit. The owner guy ordered one demo cross fire and he personally drove it for a weekend. He had nothing but trouble, no B.S. there were two occaisions where the car just would not start. He said he would NOT carry them on his lot until Chrysler made him or until they debugged the cars.

Selling your boss on the 8 sounds like a plan. I test drove one again this weekend and it is just a near spiritual experience. The cars are amazingly safe and the insurance reflects that. I pay 596.31 for full coverage on a 2003 Pontiac Vibe every 6 months. The insurance on the RX-8 is only 658.52 for six months at the same coverage limits! It has more airbags than a Volvo and it hangs the road like no other car I have ever driven. With the Dynamic Stability Control thingie I could not break traction in the car going around corners no matter how hard I tried (my salesman was about to pinch a loaf in his seat). If your boss bought this car he would thank you. The only bad thing I could say would be this coolant issue, check the rx8 forum here to see what I am talking about. But even then you give up your car for 8-14 days and it has a new engine to break in all over again...

Saw one last night at Target. It was really neet looking. It looked small and giant at the same time. It needs to site lower there is like 4 or 5 inches in the wheel well - looked dumb.

Another cool concept that will not last unless they wake up. The prowler looked awsome and honastly I would have considered buying one if they ever put a V-8 in it and made go as fast as it looked. Same goes for the Crossfire that car needs a V-8 Hemi. The freaking SRT-4 has more HP that this V-6 has. Nice look great concept now they need to make it pack a punch.

Ahhh well the boss finally came in today around 12...

I came upstairs and showed him a comparative report with an Rx8, Audi TT, Porsche Boxter, Infiniti G35, and Chrystler Crossfire on the list....

He laughed and said he knew I would love the brochure, and that he's unsure what exactly he wants in the future (next year).

I followed up in telling him the Rx8 was the best candidate, but since he's a luxo lover that he'd probably enjoy the G35 (the best other option). He smirked and then asked how much of my work day did I spend on this project hahaha.

So what was the old HP ratings for the rx8? Anyone remember/have em?

Road & Track says:

6 speed MT = 238hp

4 speed At = 197hp

This agrees with Mazda's second info release.

The Crossfire will likely have more power in the future. Remember that Mercedes V6 fits a supercharger real easy..... 350hp.
