Hey all.

now that i live in a state where they DO emissions testing, coming from a state where they did not, I was wondering what you all do to beat the smog tests, if its even possible.

My car has all emissions removed, running premix, and of course its a rotary which makes it bad to start with, and I am going to be doing a large street port in the next few months.

I had a few ideas to get around it, was wondering if these would work.

1) Tune it very lean

2) Run it down on gas, almost empty, then go put a few gallons in there and NOT any premix, just to the test then go fill up and premix right away.

( sounds kind of risky for the engine, just an idea though)

3) Re install airpump and needed accessories to thin out the exhaust gas?

4) Install a high flow cat just for testing to keep it fresh? I know this would not solve the problem, but it cant hurt.

So please, DISCUSS.

no matter what you do, your not going to pass if your car is like that. My starion is still stock turbo and i ran it on stock boost and 93 octane, i still failed by like 500 over the allowed CO2 limit. I can't even imagine how bad you would fail running your mixture. Do what I do, find a shop who you can pay, give them 60 bucks and they slap a sticker on your car. Done for the next 5 years

my $100 gsl-se passed the ca dyno smog with no help, who says rotaries are dirty?

this is what you NEED to pass. see the word NEED? its not for decoration.

airpump

WORKING acv, it needs to put all the airpump air into the exhaust ports

good main cat

mixture should be around 14.7:1, a working o2 sensor on a stock ecu car will do this. cats actually like a slightly richer mixture sometimes. also lean misfires will fail you (misfire = really high hc's), rich mixture = high co, and nox is heat, if the nox is high (not really a problem), then you need to retard the timing, or cool the thing down

PORTS; stock will pass, if you port the motor you're on your own, you may need more cats to clean up the extra unburned stuff coming out of the motor.

newer the plugs/air filter etc the better.

dude did you read that he said everythings removed ? aint no way in hell he's gona pass unless he replaces the stock emissions and doesn't port his motor. My FB just barely passed and that had the emissions off, I never said they were dirty, i just ment one with his setup, especially running premix, will never pass

sure it will. you just put the 2 solenoids back on. actually the testing here is over what the epa originally tested the cars at, so we end up bypassing the solenoids for the test.

or lemme put it this way, we're talking like less than an hour of work to get it to pass, as long as somethings not fucked up

Wow thanks for all the replies guys. I thought the testing was strictly regulated as in a shop doesnt have the power to "slap a sticker on your car"?? I knew it wouldnt be a hell of alot of work to make it pass, was just curious what everyones knowledge was on it.

Just sucks because emissions testing is anyways. All those HC's are in there anyways, its just air added to the mix.......AHH! Makes me soo mad!
