I almost got a scirocco, was only $375, but needed interior replaced, new window, and muffler. so I did the stupid thing and went with the Sable (damn Transmission), since I already had my 84 and 88 RX7 that i wanted to fix up.

my owners manual says 87 hp. exhuast can take you to about 100 if i remember right. has a donut in it to keep the power of it down below the jetta for that year.

Hey if u do get the vw sign up HERE They have good knowledge of vws especialy if u want to race them but stop talking about modding the thing because as soon as you mod it you loose your MPG. Just get a 2" Techonics tuning aluminized or stainless depending on if they salt the roads where you live. Prolly gonna want to tune the thing and all that good stuff also. At one point my a2 GTI was getting 44 MPG according the the guages. great daily driver or weekend autocross car just dont try to do both. O yea and whoever says they wanted an a1 GTI the A2 were 1 sec faster in 1/4 mile.

Thanks for all the input. The car is 2050 lbs with 80 hp, according to factory data I found. I've owned a Quantum and Dasher before my 88 Integra and they were very good cars that never needed any attention, other than basic maintenance. I hear you on the broken door handles, though.

I just about took a bus to Tacoma today to pick this thing up, but all the snow in Oregon ( a whopping three inches) delayed the freeways too much to make it worthwhile.

I really considered a second gen Integra. The thing is, I spent the past 6 years rebuilding and maintaining my 88, and the 90-92 has just about the same engine / trans layout, which is a PITA for any real repairs. Stuff is just crammed in there, but the parts weren't expensive.

I would love an MR2, but that funky engine layout would be more of a PITA to work on than the Integra's, and it would have less trunk space than my FC. I really do need something that I can just leave a transmission, rear differential, lawnmower, etc. laying in the back of it. I have no shop now that I live in a studio quad, so low / easy maintenance is a top priority, as well as ability to hold a lot of stuff.

Another one I am considering is another $750 VW, a local 78 Scirocco similar to this one. I need to go open it up and test drive it, but it looked great the one time I looked it over.
i havent seen one of those in years let alone a nice one like that

I knew a guy that had a scirocco. the way he talked about it made me think that it had a lot more power . He had wider tires on the back and a racing seat with harness, and I could tell it had exhaust. But now I'm wondering if the engine was stock.

I've seen VW "tuners" who think that way. A bunch of 4 cyl. 8 and 16 valvers on the VW vortex were telling me how they schooled RX-7's all day long with their GTI's and Jettas. The fact that they were probably racing unmodded and tired 7's with their semi-streetable, heavily modded VWs didn't cross their minds, nor did they know what a "street port" was. Oh well, it's just brand pride like any group of enthusiasts. They have their dubs and we have our wankels.

How did you spend 6 years building and maintaining a integra? All I've done is put gas/change oil in mine for 5 years? I've found that they are pretty much bulletproof. I guess I take that back, I had to put a coil in it once because it stopped running. You are right the engine and trans is a bit cramped to work on but that's the thing, you don't have to work on it Changing the timing belt and sparkplugs is pretty much a snap in these cars witch is about the only thing I can see you having to do.

It had 200k miles when I bought it and it was smoking, CV's were clicking when turning, clutch juddered, etc. So I bought a worn out one to begin with and rebuilt everything that needed to be fixed. That car had 312k miles when it got smashed and was still running and driving great.

I have found that Hondas have a limit of 200k miles before a lot of stuff needs to be rebuilt, while VW's go a little higher. With the $ I have to spend, buying another Integra would land me another worn out or abused one. I didn't try to take the insurance co. for any more than I really felt my claim was worth, because I didn't get any real injuries from the accident and certainly didn't feel much "pain and suffering" from it. I've gone through **** so much worse than that accident in life and never got compensated for it, so I was happy to get something.

also, depending on how you drive it, the TT exhuast will increase gas mileage.
