Well my friend just bought an 85 dodge of some sort for 1400.00 and apparently its a real peice of work. Not sure what he was thinking but he knows nothing of cars. So far ive heard of paint chipping and rust spots showing through. I got to do a complete tune up on it, fix the speedometer, the turn signal switch he broke turning it the wrong way( ), windows dont roll all the way down?, and its needs new tires. Im sure im going to run into a lot more than this when it shows up but thats basicly what ive been told over the phone by him. Work starts tuesday

So heres a good question. If you work on cars where do you draw the line at being nice for a friend? so far i have always dont work for him for free, sometimes i work on cars days at a time for him. Right now though becuase of current situations i need money and working 2 or more days on something for free just doesnt seem like a good idea, theres other things i need to be doing. So is it wrong to get 50 bucks or so for doing all this? I dont ask for anything typicaly its not like me so it feels weird.

Charge his ***, I get fucked all the time because I have good mechanical skills and my "friends" know this. I charge even my best friend now if its a major job or any thing time consuming. If they are really your friends they wont have an issue throwing you some money. Just my 2 cents

if u r only gonna charge 50$ to fix all the things u listed, it sounds completely and utterly reasonable, my god that'd go into the 1000's at a mechanic right?

understandable, it depends on situations, as of right now im verry broke and my trans went out, and i couldnt afford to rebuild it.

thankfully a guy on this forum helped me out so much, it was possibly the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me.

and ive got no idea how to install a trans, but a friend is doing it for free as he knows i cant afford it right now, im going to learn how to do it this tiem around so i dotn need help ever again.

so like i said, stuff like helping a friend for free is cool, dependign on the situation.

on the speedo he said it "kinda" worked so who knows what the hell he meant. The truck was used off road aparently has huge 33" mudding tires on it so im thinking the cable got snagged or something.

Edit: The excact work im doing to it is. New filters, plugs wires, change fluids, go over everything, brakes, rewire stereo(it was ripped out by theives), and fix all the little things. So hes getting a lot done for a good price. He also asked me if i would paint it, not sure if i want to try. For 1 i never have tried a car before and 2 not sure if i want to do the work. Hey rob this is an suv kinda deal how much paint would it take?
