Ya, okay. So I'm bored, got nothin to do, and I suddenly remember that "hey, there's a 3rd gen on 8th street". boing.

So I cruise over there to check it out, its nice, '93 Montego Blue dunno if itsa base, R1, etc. but its still nice. I go up to the house attached to the garage its in, and knock on the door to say hi and hopefully make another rex friend here in the middle of nowhere, Oklahoma. The guy answers, doesnt say much, doesnt come outside, gives me some real funky looks, etc. I eventually walked off without getting his name or anything cuz he acted like he thought I was on acid or something.

about 20 minutes later I walk into an empty resturaunt to see if I can find the owner of the 1st gen GS in the lot. Turns out one of the cooks owns it. I say hi and compliment her car, and then wait for a response. Nothing. The waitress and the cook kinda look at each other, then look back at me like, you guessed it, I'm trippin or something. I just kinda left after that.

I'm pretty dissapointed, i mean, its Ponca City oklahoma, not even half the size of one of the suburbs of a city like Seattle, Houston, Austin, or even Tulsa for that matter. When I find a rex, I try to meet the owner and maybe add to the pathetic list of Oklahoman enthusiasts. Instead, I get treated like a freak.

I think I know why there arent more rotaries around .....b/c people like these own them. Sad. Oh well, more for me.

Sorry about the long post, its been awhile since i've posted here, and I'm bored.

i kno wut u mean....alot of people are like that...when i first met my girl she would ask me WTF i was doing gettin other people in 7's attention, but now she understands...lol

treceb 05-16-2002 06:10 AM

I used to do that. But in a prejudice kinda way, I would only go up to ppl with first gens. But then i realised that most ppl around here that own 1st gens are ricans. And I stopped. The last thing II need is ppl to drive away with my car.

I did start again, tring to get ppl to go to this BBQ we having here in jersey, and i scared the crap out of a guy. I swear he almost jumps out the window. I was in my ghia and i had some fliers for the bbq, and i see this first gen, so i get a flier out, get out of my car and knock on the door, then i bang on the door. nothing. he was blasting some salsa and was looking behind him through the side mirror. when he finally turned around. ive never seen anyone jump so high.

that's what i like to see

I think in this day and age everybody is kind of suspicious of people that are genuinly trying to just be friendly. There are so many people that have taken advantage of others by giving the pretense of being a "friend" that its kind of ruined things for everyone. Most of those people might have thought that you were going to carjack them later. Its sad, but thats our society -and its only going to get worse.

I have alot of people stop by my house to ask about my RX-7's. I always talk to them, but you have to be careful. I figure that if I told them to f*&k off they may come back and break my windows, etc. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

My apologies to anyone that finds my previous post offensive.

Since there are a few of us replying from the east here. Anyone that went to englishtown 2 weekends ago. There was a little red R100 with a tweety sticker on the back, how was it running down the strip? If you ever get a chance to see it at a race, I suggest you go check out his engine bay. its pretty neat.

anyone(vosko) got videos from that day?

thanks

are you trying to tell me, drag racing the car biweekly, driving to mads 1000 miles, road course racing the car for two days (on boost whole time), doing burnouts, brakestands, top speed 150+ mph runs on the highway, and having me behind the wheel will decrease engine life no way. in the three months i had the car running. i ABUSED IT. for a $500 car did extremely well running cosistent 13 second runs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

turborotor and i had to do that when both our cars broke at etown a few weeks ago https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif i hope i don't have car totally fail while drag racing again...... this is the first rx7 i had that then engine totally failed while i owned it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png this engine had low compression from the beginning though 100 psi front 95 psi rear. all my racing sure didn't help https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png
Somehow I think that the car would have lasted longer in somebody else's care. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
are you trying to tell me, drag racing the car biweekly, driving to mads 1000 miles, road course racing the car for two days (on boost whole time), doing burnouts, brakestands, top speed 150+ mph runs on the highway, and having me behind the wheel will decrease engine life no way. in the three months i had the car running. i ABUSED IT. for a $500 car did extremely well running cosistent 13 second runs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
I've started to be a little easier on my car...for now.
blasphemy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
Well, I have to be careful with test drives in my area. There have been alot of cops around lately. Now that I think of it I was boosting alot yesterday. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
just gotta drive with eyes open https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
Whenever I pass another seven I usually waive. I guess I am just used to it with the Jeep waive thing. Some kid drives a 1st gen close to where I live, and I have passed him a couple of times. Each time I have waived (in my 1st gen) and the kid gives me the strangest look. Unfortunately they are kinda like "what the **** are you looking at" looks. Oh well, too bad he sucks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

When I pass other Sevens, I've always tried to wave or give an FTP flash to the other driver. This one dude in my town with an 88 10AE always waves back or gives me the peace sign. I still haven't had a chance to talk to him. One time, I was driving along side this 1st gen, and I looked over to wave, and the dude was this middle-aged guy who grinned and gave me the nod. He knew what was up. Unfortunately, as of late, I usually get the same "WTF" looks that you mention.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 05-17-2002 06:17 PM

I've had alot of people come up and talk to me about my 7. In fact, I was BSing with someone today at a gas station. :P

The Blue Bomber 05-17-2002 11:25 PM

I love it when people come and talk to me about my seven. one time this hot girl came in domino's and ask about my seven we chatted for a minute. her EX-boyfriend used to race them but unfortunately i never got his number or hers (i'm such a chode around the ladies)

however just the other day i was at a red light when a gold series iv pulls up beside me we both had our windows down so i went "dude i like you car" and oddly enough he responded telling me mine was cool also. its a wonderful world when 7 owners can come together for a common good! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Don't feel bad Dave, Just do what I do. Realize that most oklahomans are ******s and go on about your biz... They were born here, live here, and probably will die here without ever knowing much different.

For example, I have a neighbor with a beautiful blaze red S4 NA on rims, I used to wave but never got a return so I quit. I think he thinks he's a gangster or something. Oh well... tough ****, his ignorance is his own loss. For all I care he can keep buying overpriced Mazda parts for his aging car.

For the most part I do let them just go on about their business, but it sucks to know that they've got a 7 just longing to be treated right.

I cant wait to get mine running, then I can start on the rebuild. I'm hoping to redo my interior too. All DIY.

Sometimes i get the WTF looks and others i get warm welcomes. But either way it seems that i am always doing the chasing , never the one being chased(well not by the cops any way). But oh well, I always have to run down other RX owners even if its out of my way.

Rotorboy317 05-20-2002 09:39 PM

Hey mazdaspd, a lot of rx owners are pretty reclusive or have daily schedules totally different than yours. I'm pretty sure if you start looking in every alley, open garage, etc., and driving a little bit more you'll find at least one. From what I can tell, a lot more rex's are on the coast than in the midwest. Just keep your eyes open and dont give up, you'll find a few eventually.

And really, who cares if there's like, 5 1st gens, 7 2nd gens, and a 3rd gen here in Ponca? Its not like any of them A.) know what they're driving or B.) want to talk to me anyway.

So https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/moon.gif hehe.

I dunno what it is about us rotorheads, maybe we're nicer cuz the 1.3 liter, 2 cylinder, 10+ year old we pack will shred engines 2-3 times its size. Couldnt be the pure, unadulterated fury we loose on said engine trying to fix it (nothing left for anything else). Or how about the respect/empathy we should all automatically feel for anyone else who's owned or driven an rx. And nobody said anything about the pity for the boinger masses that binds us all like ceran wrap on leftovers. Er, yeah. I'm on some messed up crack tonight. Not really, I'm just weird.

Where are the 2 cylinders?

Rotorboy317 05-21-2002 10:51 PM

rotors are the equivalent of cylinders, arent they?

I dunno, I know nothing about piston engines.

I just think its cool to say, it gets a good reaction from my peers @ high school. heehee.

Rotarydragon 05-22-2002 07:59 AM

Saw the guy with that really nice looking white 2nd gen on the road a few days back. Flashed my lights at him, he flashed em back so ya never know.

Had real fun at the DMV, they asked how many cylinders it was I said "0". Funny looks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
