Here's the story....

june 2000

I was going to a party with 2 of my friends when I see this rx7 parked at a gas station. I decided to stop and had a good look at it (about 20 minutes), took down the phone number and call the guy after. Engine was blown and he asked $650 CDN for it (roughly 400 US). The body was mint, the paint glossy and had 2 dents on it (fixed them). Its a 86 GX with 130,000 miles, 5 spd, sunroof, 14in wheels, clean interior, all stock. Well, you know what a GX (SE in US) is... I gave $600 cash and we had a deal. Since then it was in my garage getting cleaned, all rust removed, brake lines redone, fuel lines redone, dents removed. The car was being refreshed...

Sept. 2001.

Owner of rotary dynamics comes to install the new engine. Base 86 engine with 3mm seals. It took us 2 days to install it (remove old one, install new one). We tried to start it, no go. Checked the fuel pump....its covered in what looks like tar and so is the fuel tank....WTF??? well, it looks like the owner did not tell us (or didnt know) someone put sugar in the gas tank....get the tank cleaned, get a used fuel pump. Winter comes...snowed like hell....no way its getting out of the garage...

April 2002

The car started for the first time.!!! runs rough but its normal. For the 3 months (having school in the city). I couldnt work on it until the weekend came. So I started it and let it idle in the driveway, sometimes taking it out for a ride but had to be cautious (not licensed).

July 2002 !!!!!!!!!!

Passed inspection on the 2nd try (loose brake cables, parking brakes not adjusted). btw, there's no smog here in Quebec. Yesterday, called sick from work, got the car at the inspection station, got license plates, today went to work with it and feel like a new man!

im just curious about the brake-in periods of these engines, i was told 500km until i could redline (btw, oil change was made at 375km).

i'll post pics whenever i get my digi camera back

Fisrt 500 miles, you want to keep in under 4k and gentle. At 500 miles, change the oil. After that you can give it a little more load as it climbs closer to 1000 miles. After a 1000 miles you can give it full load.

idling doesn't really do anything. you want to have varying in load to break in all the seals properly
