Ito is gonna tighten you up man but he's only one person, Me and my buddy had a repair shop in town and people really dont give a **** what it takes to get something done they just want it done. Real easy to say it doesnt take that much time when you're not turning the wrenches. On your side tho I would be pissed if my car was down for 14 months but is this your daily driver or just a side project?

No it is not, if it was I would have strong legs.

On the other note, guys, please don't have an altercation.

I think all in all, time management is a key to success and customer rapport is second to that.

it would depend on the boats, but generally speaking I average $175 a hour when we charge $125 a hour, sometimes I end up billing out $200+ a hour, sometimes I work on 1 boat a week because its a 40-50 hour job, and sometimes I work on 10 boats a week because they are 5 hour jobs a piece.

then there are jobs like this 2000+ hour one, where we only make $85 a hour because its so involved we have to give a break so the guy will get the whole boat restored.

We have people who come to the shop, we tell them we are 6-8 months behind, and they still leave thier boat there, then once we start to work on it the job grows and next thing you know the boat is there for a year.

It happens all the time, I always said I would take 10 $1000 jobs over 1 $10,000 job any day

what does cheers means anyway? I generally only see it on the internet, I dont run into people who say "cheers" when they are done talking?

My rates are $120 an hour also but what does that have to do with any of this?

Cheers

He posted excusses as top why the work was not done. Thats all I commented about.

I dunno sounds to me like your trying to say the same thing Ito did about his work..

True but the fact that the job was a two hour drive from my house, so that makes for four hours in the Van to get to the job doesn't help when I had to get back to the shop to get the hour of paper work done that goes along with the job. It's a long day any way you look at it.

How do you figure? I was there and completed the job on time, I only mentioned what went into making that happen, not giving excuses as to why I could not get the work complete. Ito had this car for months. Then posts a dozen reasons as to why he has not had time to complete it. Put yourself in this guys shoes. He has an honest gripe and some of you are acting as though he is in the wrong for speaking up.

Why am I getting questioned for thinking that a car sitting for 14 months is unprofessional? If they have agreed on such an excessive time frame that is a whole other thing but if that is the case it has not been pointed out in this thread.

I understand Ito has problems getting this done, but that is not Jerrys problem. Bottom line. I hope that Ito is able to get his work caught up and I hope Jerry is happy with the car when it gets done.

I have nothing against any of you and I will no longer involve myself in this because I really don't have any need for this BS.

All I'm trying to say is that from my point of view it appears you both were making the same points. His to me wasnt really excuses its just what happens and while 14 months is a bit eccesive Judges shop is busy and its well known to be.

I am not saying Jerry is in the wrong for posting this. I would be upset if i took my car to a shop and had it sitting for a long time as well and it unknown to me that it would. But knowing the shop i can say that this doesnt seem like something he wouldnt of known prior to it arriving.

And since you listed what you do, I happen to work on vehicles my self. I range from imports, domestics, semis, and anything else. I understand how it gets to be swamped with work and trying to get a lot done, its no excuse its just how **** goes sometimes. You try to work as fast you can to get things in and out quickly but being one person sometimes it doesnt show. As for what I charge $35+ hr depending on the job. Does any of this matter? Hell no.

Heh... *****'s. Come to our shop. you haven't seen busy. With the million different things we have going on, even I don't see how we stay caught up. But we do.

ITO I can understand though, mainly because I can relate. He is one man running a shop that is know internanionally as one of the best rotary shops. How would you like to deal with that kind of demand? From his various posts on here, it seems that there has been a LOT going on over the past few months for him. I'm sure you will get your car in due time Jerry, and with ITO's great reputation (you don't earn one for no reason) your car will be awesome.

I think judge ito should do what atkins switched to years ago. No car work, but just engine rebuilds. Save the grunt work like pulling engines and that stuff for the owners or have them take it to a shop to put it in for them. I dont think someone like judge ito who can build awsome engines and be really well known for them should be doing this grunt work. With just engine rebuilds he would be making more money, work easier, and make more people happy when they get their engine.

Dave what is your whole point here in arguing? Jerry needed to express his views and in return so do I. You go ahead and tell John to get his facts straight when he talked about another shop and what makes you think you got any facts straight when it comes down to my sitiuation.

You go on to compare me with another shop that has more man power then me.What are you getting out of that? what are we getting out of that? nothing, nada...

Moral of the story is. It has taking to long to finish almost every job in my shop. I'm a one man team. I have no control over it. and soon I will no longer have to deal with it.

a lesson learned for me.. I will no longer own a shop...
