Red Bull Air Race

http://www.redbullairrace.com/ I just got confirmation that I was drawn to get 4 tickets - should be pretty cool, timed obstacle course with some of the worlds best aerobatic pilots. I just don't know where in Cashel they have space, it's all hills - google the rock of cashel to get an idea.

I nearly didn't go to this because of the weather, but boy am I glad I went - some of the stuff they did was amazing, and 90% of it was only a few feet off the ground. We were right underneath where they do a vertical barrel roll which is some experience - I tried to get some pics/clips but most of them were useless - I've uploaded the best one here but it really doesn't get across how close the planes came, we also managed to get a shot of a helicopter demonstrating the course - that pic was taken facing straight up and you can see he was almost flying upside-down - the zoom is not as messed up so you can get an idea of how close the planes were - I'm seriously regretting not getting some better pics, they did everything you could imagine is possible in a plane, they were even doing that cool oversteering thing, and all in pretty heavy winds.
Apparently there we over 60,000 people - at the very start of the clip you can just about see some of the crowds - that was about 1/3 of all the people there.
Oh yeah, the guy that won it was a Hungarian who I've seen before on a video posted here - he's the guy with the moustache, and according to the website that puts him in second overall.

The highlights were just on the telly, make for great watching if anyone want's to host it, the file's just a little too big for me to host. There's also some great shots of the rock and some Irish countryside which might interest greyGTC and others.

Tickets were free - I've uploaded a very lossy video, it's as big as I'm prepared to host, It's got a bit of scenery and info and then the fastest run of the day (not counting his 10 second penalty) by top gun pilot Mike Mangold. Check out the vertical barrel roll afte gate 6 and you can see a crowd right underneath, that's where we were. You really can't appreciate how amazing it was on video, but if someone wants to host a better vid let me know. Video: http://www.iol.ie/~locoblade/mystuff/redbull1.avi
